I use to mod alot but after a while I was out of ideas and premade become too popular. This is the case I build about 3 years ago: I think that Modding was a way to change how cases where made. I think the industrie adjust their products to the needs. Now the modding world dont need as much as before cause everything can be found premade. In a way it killed the sport, but in another hand, they bring it to the consumer. I'm looking at my armor right now, and I find it just perfect, why had something to ruin it all? But that was before I came with other ideas. Now I'm more concern about the inside then the outside of the case. Better airflow, and nice wirring. Here's the first step of my project. I called it the Resurrection cause I feel like I'm back from the deads. Been a long time since I've touch those tools of mine. I liked feeling that vibrating plastic dremel between my fingers. The sensation was so intense that I won't stop now. Object of destruction: The almigthy TT ARMOR First step: Airflow, HDD Cages and case silencer) I hear alot of people saying that their case is clean, the wires are pratically invisible, but I have difficulties to achive the same results. Probably cause those saying that only have 1 or 2 HDD. But it's much more difficult with 6, so I came with this solution Got myself another ICage As soon As I got it out of the box I start modding it. I add 6 holes on each sides so I can reverse the iCage in the case (sory no pics for this part) I did the same on the one I already had. This way all the HDD wires are on the front of the case hided by the besels and from the inside, the fans are near the motherboardwich provide a nice airflow to the components and still cool the HDD. as you can see in that last pic, I have a mirror at the bottom of the case. It's made from a mirrored plexiglass I found at Home depot. I will next cover the wires at the right side of the mobo with it so the case will finally be clean. I almost forgot, I had a little helper on this project
It is somewhat true that mainstream modding took away a lot of the DIY. Although what I noticed is that people just mod that stuff to make it their own in true modding spirit. Looks like a start, what do you have planned for this one?
I've planned to hide all the wire (as much as possible) I also want a full mirrored inside so only a couple of lights will be enough. I also planned an internal WC system, but I will have to wait to achive that cause of money problems. Hve a couple of other ideas, but I need time to think of the way of doing them.
is it just me or are all thermaltake cases when they have a everything inside look very cramped. i do agree very much with the views of modding becoming mainstream and pre-made "modded" cases actually annoy me as they are not modded they are fabricated in their thousands all the same not unique at all. One other thing that i am not a gr8 fan of is ppl using laser cutters im not entirely sure if i could count that as a mod as it isnt hands on work, especially if it was done by someone else like a laser cutting service anyone agree?
The Armor is not so cramped, its just fully loaded. For the new side of modding, I can only add that it became more an artwork then before. We use to mod to change things, I remember my first fan controller. When I builded it, there was only 2 or 3 availlable on the market, now, we can find nice ones for a couple of bucks. Life change, anyway, I think there's still alot that can be made to personallise our beasts. Laser cuts? I think I used one a long time ago, but I think th'es nothing like the old fashion fan grill. I like the look of those
Little update: Been working with the dremel today Cut this shape, do I have to explain how? I dont think so, anyway, it's always fun to show: Cut with the dremel Clean the hole with the sandpaper: Clean the sides with another sandpaper: Make holes for the fan and for mounting: And finally uncover the Almighty Plexi Add the fan As you can ssee, I used premod in there (led screws by sunbeam) And finally prepare the beast: the original design of the case leaved 4 of those screws to add a HDD cage, wich I dont need, So I'll be useing them to mount the plexi on the top of the case OK, I have a bit of fine tuning to do, my back holes are 1mm off, but basically that's it for the top of the case
there's alot of work to do, but I will end it someday. My last mod took me about 6 months to do, so I'm not in a hurry I forgot 1 pic I really love, it's an upview of the inside, on the right you can see the reflexion of the blue fans, in the middle you have the reflexion of the green led (on the top_ and on bottom left, you have the reflexion of the PSU also reflected by the top mirror. Now imagine it with all sides covered by mirrors
