It's way too early to recommend buying a PS3.
Going by all the cock-ups Sony have made so far, I'd say no, don't even think about it until they've actually been released, reviewed and fixed (bug-wise).

    [edit]
tbh, this is probably a bit of a pointless thread, and we'll no doubt see the Sony fanboys posting their comments before long (you know who you are).

Which console should you buy- It's too early to tell whether the PS3 or XBox 360 will have a bigger collection of games. I'm sure every fanboy will claim the 360 is the most powerful console made, much like Sony fanboys will say the same about the PS3- I personally like the specs of the Sony hardware better (mainly 'cause of Blu-Ray and the fact that it's released after the 360).

I look forward to owning a PS3 someday, but I will probably wait until at least January before buying one- if I'm lucky the price might drop a little by then and any bugs should be fixed. I doubt that buying a launch console would put someone in a bad position- I mean even if the early consoles end up being a fire hazard like the early XBoxs, the early consoles still have a warranty.

    Fisrtly, Welcome to bit-tech,
Secondly, as said above me, its way to early to recomend something, though, if you asked me, £400 is a little extreme to play games (Not that it stops me from upgradeing my PC :D ) Personaly i think the XBOX 360 is the better buy, its cheaper, can play on Live straight out of the Box, and games look amazing, HALO 3 is the 360's masterpeice when its released in 2007, but, basicly, if your happy to waste your money :hehe: then buy a PS3, if your wise buy a 360 and a Wii, and wait till the PS3 reduces in price :D

Yes I can safely assume the PS3 would be a good buy. There's a lot of great games coming out, and huge third party support is almost a guaruntee.

I played the PS3 today at Target. I have to say Motor Storm was awesome! NBA07 was ok. I don't play too much sports games these days anyway. The PS3's Home browser though felt lacking. Honestly with the PSP they can get away with that browser because it's such a small screen so details in the background aren't really needed. When playing on a much larger screen, and seeing the lack of detail in the PS3's gui it really felt bland. I know it's a bit knit picky but hey, they went with it and compared to the 360's blade gui it's really leaves much to be desired. Aside from that the graphics were amazing in 720p playing motostorm. I was really into the game, and compared to Excite Truck on Wii it was a little more enjoyable despite the lack of the control style the Wii uses with Excite Truck (it's super fun using that Ninty controller). Haha I used Super fun. I'm too excited, now that i've had a chance to see how both systems work, while already owning a 360 (and loving Gears of War) I can't wait for both launches.

I went to a target around here and the display PS3 "was blown" according to the less-than-smart looking person working the electronics department. I peered into the case behind the shiny PS3 banner and clearly saw that it was turned off, with the red light on.

If it was blown it was because they had it closed into a 3x3 unventilated plexi-glass case running for 12 hours a day. Their Wii was not set up.

The PS3 will be worth while to pick up once the major games arrive for the platform, which appears to be late into 2007 from all indications. There is nothing really strong about the PS3's launch (same could be said about the PS2's launch as well) and if games aren't a reason alone to wait, the launch prices are. $500 for a console is a steep price to pay with such a meager launch. There is the whole Blu-ray thing but until it or HD-DVD takes off, this is really a non-issue for gamers.

Later units are likely going to be free of the initial launch bugs. Sony has already announced a firmware patch ready on launch day. Sony is switching manufacturing from Asus to Foxconn in February so it isn't that long of a wait for new units to be free of hardware defects initially. Sony is moving its chip production to the more manufacturing friendly 65 nm node in 2007. This will result in systems running cooler, consuming less power, easier to produce and may very well lead to a price cut at retail.

Worth noting is that NBA Live 07 has been cancelled completely for the PS3.

I really have no interest in the PS3 at the mo, mainly due to the extremely steep price tag of not only the console but the games, the dodgy Sixaxis pad with the Li-On batteries sealed into it, the fact that Sony has got no-where near to proving to me that they can support online gaming properly, the launch has weak titles and more importantly the first batch are going to be over-run with bugs, glitches and consoles breaking down.

Call me cynical but I got a PS2 on launch day for £299 which was a lot of my money (should have spent it on a car!) and it broke within six months!!!! I can see the same happening to the PS3 and anyway got a 360 (which ROCKS!) now so maybe in a years time I may pick up a PS3 when it retails for £99.95!

There are some good launch games coming out. Namely Resistance: Fall of Man which IGN gave a 9.1 and Motorstorm is supposed to be good. Full Auto 2 and Ridge Racer 7 are also supposed to be good games. There's also a selection of sports games, if you're into that. It is also worth noting that the PS3 games should be retailing at $60, the same as 360 games.

I would personally get a Playstation 3, but that's just me. If you want something, get it, simple as that :p

You lucky Americans! Not only do you get stuff weeks before us but you get the stuff cheaper too! European PS3 games have been said to retail at £60! Whereas CoD3 was selling at a £40 at launch henceforth why I don't really want a PS3, that and the first batch most probably won't work.

I just want to point out that if Full Auto 2 is just Full Auto with minimal additions then it's not worth a purchase. The online play was fun for the first week it was out... then EVERYONE had unlocked the better guns and online plays became a headache. When you're duking it out with someone else racing for first and you get blown up by the guy in last place after you pass him, you tend to get a bit pissed off.

Themax has, by far to this date, posted by far one of the better posts in any of these "PS3 OMFG" threads to date. Thank you themax :)

Anyways, I haven't played anything, but I am getting a Wii this weekend and my life as I know it is over with. Red Steel, Wii Sports and oh yeah, Zelda once it's out. Damn, I will be doing nothing once I have my Wii :D

I work on PS3 so i'd be a bit biased. But from my experience, mostly kernel and audio, its a very nice piece of kit. The 'Playstation Network' is really cool aswell, and the web browser is very handy for you living room. It has had some issues but their mostly sorted now. And any future would be fixed by firmware updates anyway.

Thanks for the review, did Sega send you a copy personally or did you read about it once on the internet?

Um, I said IF it was like Full Auto which I owned for about 3 weeks before I traded it in for Ghost Recon. It wasn't worth the $60 I paid for it.
