"The advantage of having a digital-only console however is that Sony should be able to combat exploits like this a lot faster than it did before."

That's assuming that anyone will be buying it in the first place.

I still think they've lost the plot.

Haha! I'm inclined to agree. They've really screwed this one up. No shop wants to sell them, no customer wants to buy them. They'll end up being bundled with PS3s and mobile phones!

I couldn't watch that video at all. He didn't use a tripod and was waving about his camera. Doesn't look like he wanted to show us anything at all.

Getting user-mode access is useless, and none of the usual suspects will waste much time looking into the Go as it's one of the worst consoles to appear in recent times.

Wise people might not want it, but it still will be on many christmas lists. Children these days just want everything, and some adults. So sony will still make money on it.

"Digital-only console"? Were UMDs analogue then?

Imagine what these would be capable of if open sourced. Instead we get:

"We are Sony. We own 'your' games. We own 'your' music. We own 'your' movies. 'All your content are belong to us'. Resistance is futile (and subject to litigation). Your economic prosperity will be removed and added to our own."

I think Nokia has the right idea with the upcoming N900 (though the N800 & 810 were not as successful as I had hoped. Sadly, open source has yet to produce a truly successful commercial product. - but that's another, much larger topic.)

Personally the most exciting open source project is probably the GP2X, a system that doesn't get the attention it deserves. If enough people got on the wagon then they would probably be able to push its specs much better.
