Agreed, another forum I used to post at had the hack installed. I found it really useful. Don't think it will encourage spam all that much,
I use quick reply on many forums... while I find it very useful, I do find that it seems to encourage more spam. That's just my personal take on it, further elaborating on why I think it causes/encourages spam.
I wouldent say it encourages spam that much, I guess it makes it easyer but dosent nessicarly encourage it. Still its been asked many times and everytime the mods say no slater..
I'm willing to give it a trial, we have things planned over the coming weeks when we partake in a spring clean of the forums. However, it is Rich's decision as he will be the one installing the hack.
I'm still quite against a quick reply box - i forsee many replies consisting of "lol" or "". And if you remember a while ago, we had a minimum reply length which was eventually gotten rid of due to lack of popularity, so we can't use that tactic to stop such replies.
i think it might be approriate in certain forums where a quick reply would be warranted but in other forums it may not. just my take on it
Perhaps if it is added, a minimum length can be given to the quick-reply box only, as well as some kind of warning above it. You may see a little more spam (hopefully not), but I think it would be nice. Also, it would save a little bandwidth. </uselessbribe> lol. Thanks for the consideration.
Is it just a comment box at the bottom of every page in a thread which makes it easier to reply without going onto a seperate page? <A88>
Thanks. Personally I'd find it a bit of a waste of space, it would definately encourage more useless posts. <A88>
Most have that feature of the above example, where you can only quote the last post, so they're not that useful IMO. Unless you copy the bit you want to respond to, then read the other replies to make sure it's not been covered before arriving at the Quick Reply box and pasting it in. But most folk aren't as perfect as what I am.
there are far too many posters typing undecipherable gibberish here already. quick-reply could only make it worse. it'd be nice if a few people here could proof read their posts before making replies. you know, just correct some of the glaring typos etc... quick-reply would only result in these people making even more pointless, rushed, unreadable posts. less rushing + more thinking == win imo. if you go ahead with the quick-reply thing, i reckon you might as well stick some 'default answer' buttons at the bottom of the page too. especially useful in project logs: 'nice work' 'subscribed' '' //oh, and i know i'm far from perfect (not a fan of capitals, use a lot of '...', brackets, smileys, and of course, i LOVE my small text )
The only issue I've found with the quick reply box, is that when a thread spans more than a page people reply before reading the whole thread.
