'Anyone here hoping to get their hands on one next year and go completely solid-state on their desktop,'

Not planning on going all solid state for a long while. The storage can stay on the dinosaur platter drives, that's okay. Boot/OS/apps, though, I'm looking to transition that ASAP.. Raptor is driving me insane with the noise - the speed, lower heat output and lower power usage will be a nice bonus.

That's good for the progression of drives, but the key to its success is the price tbh. If it's cheap enough they can corner the high-performance, decent-capacity storage market. If only they'd make a smaller-capacity one with the same tech - a 128GB one would be plenty big enough for a nice fat boot drive. :D

Though I can't think why they wouldn't release a smaller one.
I am sure it will be a long time before these are cheap enough that I can justify one though.

    I'm pure moist tbh.
Been looking to buy one for ages and as soon as they became available in large quantities I'd spent my money on other things. :/

this is the big one, guys - the tech that will cause some serious price drops to be seen. I wouldn't be surprised to see this type of drive within Raptor pricing in a year.

Honestly for me anything above 60gb would be an upgrade for the laptop. Lately as the price has been dropping i have been eying them.

To be honest it's hard enough to even get hold of the 64GB ones, even if you're willing to pay for them.

Pointless until it's a lot more mainstream.

Am I the only person round here becoming increasingly frustrated at vapourware? I mean, seriously - when can I go and get one of these things from ebuyer? 2010?
