I'm thinking about getting Splinter Cell Conviction for PC because it's dirt cheap now and I've played all the titles so far on my trusty PS2 for years; so I basically want to continue the story However, I can't be bothered with it if it has some super draconian always-on copy protection on it. Can someone provide me with some info about that? I remember it being quite controversial at release but I can't remember if they got rid of it in an update or anything. Cheers
It's done via U-Play, so IIRC you have to be online at all times to play it. Good game, and as my computer was always connected to the internet anyway it never bothered me.
Does U-Play like install on your computer or is it just part of the game? I mean, to play GTA IV you have to install Rockstar Social Club beforehand; a pretty pointless piece of software. @tehBoris, I have, played them all. Just liked the look of Conviction.
The main problem is that it was developed for consoles. Splinter cell used to be a very complicated game where the console versions where hard to play because it had to use every button on the controller and you had to learn them. Conviction is exceptionally dumbed down and doesn't require stealth any more. Not a splinter cell game, it may as well be generic shooter 712 third person stealth edition, also the story was crap.
U-Play installs on the computer, and it's a game where it's each to their own, as I thought it was a great game (So did a lot of the reviewers who gave it 8/10 9/10 etc.) I guess if you were a big fan of the original Splinter Cell games and expecting it to be the same then you'll be disappointed.
Ah okay, so not much stealth and sneaking about then? It looks good in the trailers and stuff but now I'm not so sure...
Comparatively it's an action game, not a proper stealth game. If you really loved the old ones, don't bother with Conviction. Also, get DXHR because that can be played as an excellent stealth game IMO.
