The professor for my statistics class is asking us to take a sample of a target population and use the data to characterize that population. So I figured why not take a sample of this web forum to classify the correlation between age, gender, and computer literacy/affinity.

All I ask is that you provide your age, gender, and how tech savvy you think you are (beginner/average joe, Intermediate, High, Very high, Expert)

The report is due to the professor on 2-May-08, so please provide your data by 30-April-08

Thanks for your help, I'm sure I can count on you ;)

I know enough to know that I can't know everything. ;) I would say very high. (At least on hardware. High on software)

Don't forget, your data will be skewed because of the source. I would say that of the people who will bother to answer this, a great majority will be High+, purely because of the demographic of a web forum such as this.

Also, your data includes subjective material. My High could be the same as someone else's very high, or vice-versa. Really you need some sort of quiz to test computer literacy/affinity, so that you can derive your own results from that. I'm sure hughwi did one a couple of months back on Travel habits.

Good luck on the report though!

I'm characterizing the population of this web forum by means of a random sample; if I were to try to characterize people in general then using a tech forum as the source of the sample surely would be an issue. I've posted this same thread on another forum so that will give me the opportunity to compare 2 different populations as well

I'm well aware that the tech savvy part is very subjective (some people would provide artificially high information) but I'm not considering a person's actual tech level just what level they claim to be at.
Further, since this is not intended to be a very involved project I may just do the characterizations by age/gender, but thought the tech savvy part may play an interesting twist that would be worth mentioning.
