    Hi all,
I have a very specific request. I'm trying to get hold of a Yaesu FT-790R to replace the one I'm about to return to Cambridge (we've been borrowing it for a while and other people now have dibs). If anyone can:
    - put me in touch with someone who is looking to sell up
    - a good radio shop in the UK where I could buy one
    - a radio club where I might be able to track one down
I'd be really grateful. If you're wondering what I need it for check my signature!
    Best wishes,
    Awoken

I don't know where you can buy one as it shows up as discontinued but I'd keep an eye out on eBay as one sold for £82 s/h, minus a couple of bits, less than 2 weeks ago. Also maybe some of the ham radio forums.

Failing that have you tried contacting Yaesu UK on 01962 866667? If you explain what it's to be used for - your school club - and you can demonstrate proof of some sort they might try to find one for you or maybe a similar item that might do the job if they have one.

Edit: before anyone gets weird ideas, no I'm not into ham radioing or whatever it's called :p Just trying to be helpful

Thanks Carrie, I haven't seen one of these on Ebay for months but then perhaps I haven't checked regularly enough, I'll keep a closer eye on that.
I'll try contacting Yaesu as well, they might be able to donate one as you said (fingers crossed!).

Also, if you can present them with some kind of associated local publicity idea they'll benefit from they may be more willing to help. Good luck!

Does it have to be a FT790r specifically? Or will any 70cms radio do?

We're after a radio capable of 70cms SSB (USB) reception (transmission would be a bonus but isnt strictly necessary).
