Hi guys, My tv card is a huappauge nova 500t dual tuner pci freeview card and it is causing my system to bsod all the time. Anyone care to recomend me a similar card that they have postive experience with? it needs to have a bda driver, and be pci or pci-e and the cheaper the better.
I have jsut bought this card a few days ago as unfortunatly my Black Gold single tuner and Terratec 2400 Dti were giving me problems. The reason I bought the Hauppauge card is because it is surposed to be one of the most stable and reliable cards. I have installed it in Vista Media Center yesterday night and had no problems installing it and it has been fine for the wife last night and this morning (and that is the real test!). I have installed it with the latest drivers. When itbu screens try taking the 5 or 6 hex (0x00000000) things down and googleing it also have a look for an event id and check eventid.net out. I would also consider rebuilding it if possible as this would let you have a fresh build with the minimal software and may resolve things (just takes a bit of time and hassle). Better than throughing the card away to find it is something else.
fathazza- is it one of the diversity models? i.e. does it have input for two ariels? They were a short run and had a few problems, i returned my for a normal non diversity but i've not got it back yet so i don't know how it shapes up.
For the record my nova T is the diversity model and has no issues what so ever, this is with XP, Vista 32-bit and 64-bit, using it's own software and media centre (which is much much better than winTV)
it is a dual tuner model, and pci, not usb. tho it is basically a usb host and two usb tuners on a pci board if that makes sense. the problem is a known issue tho no one seems to know why it occurs tho hauppauge are blaming ms' usb drivers in xp. im really asking for help with the hauppauge just a recomendation for a different dual tuner card. phillj, what were the problems you had with a terratec and black gold cards?
The problems i had with the Terratec were the fact that the screen would do mainly corrupt recordings when it was used, the other tuner was fine after I disabled this one. But then the other one started going black occasionally when watching TV, and the only thing that would reesolve it was a reboot (this is with the 255 driver as the later ones didn't pickup all muxs in VMC). As for the Black Gold one, that gave a BSOD serveral times. I rebuiilt the machines couple of times with the bare minimum just to test, but the issues soon came back with both. My hauppauge was fine last night as well. Good luck finding a good tuner
I have found this article on the Microsoft website that it isn't exactly releated, but is surposed to resolve issues with the USB pci bus and the way vista handles it, maybe it resolves other issues with it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941996 Thought it might be worth a try (nothing to lose), just a thought!
i use a couple of Nova-T 500's in my ubuntu media centers and they work OK, it sounds to me like a driver issue, are they the most up to date versions?
