yea cuttinng plexi without goggles on with a dremel can get dangerous especially when a hot piece of plexi flyhs at your eye luckilly i blinnked at the perfect moment now just gotta wait till my eye heals
no dont gotta pic but its mostly healed up i had to keep my contacts out for a few days but its pretty healed up now but man if it didnt hurt
I had the exact same happen to me over the christmas holiday while finishing this etched piece for my mom.
i wear glasses. i was cutting a lot of aluminum yesterday, then spraypainting enough to fill my entire basement with fumes. my glasses were covered with flecks of red aluminum to the point where they were almost sunglasses.
i was weed eating whith a weed wacker in my back yard oh about a year ago and a rock or something hit my eye i could not see out of it for 2 weeks thank got i can see now that would have sucked if i lost my vision out of one eye
u were lucky well seeing all these stories all i can say is that u guys were really lucky. I was in the backyard with my younger brother who fired a diana airgun at the wall in front of us. Now this air gun has 22 bore iron pellets. A sharpnel from the pellet rebounded off the wall and went straight into my right eye. Initially all i felt was as if someone had poured a drop of hot boiling water into my eye... plus the fact that i couldnt see anything except red on the right eye. It was the weirdest feeling ever. One eye I could see my brother... the other half of my visual field everything was red ! i was getting dizzy. I thought there was blood on my eyelid so started wiping it .. but nothing there ! Turned out that the pellet had penetrated my cornea, gone through my lens, and lodged in the posterior wall of the eyeball. It tore my retina and caused bleeding within my eye. That was all the red stuff eye i was seeing... Well a trip to the Michigan Kellog centre in USA and 3 surgeries later... here I am and I still cant see too well with my right eye. My vision is 20/200 so you could say I am still legally blind in my right eye. I am a doctor in my country (I am from pakistan by the way). Graduated from med school in 2002 and wanted to become a surgeon.... well guess what... no binocular vision = no surgery residency !! The doctors in the US told me that the chances of a piece of metal entering the eye through the cornea with such precision is one in a million ! Aaah well i'll try winning the lottery next Anyways... I registered on this forum just coz this topic hit me. I was searching on google for something else.... hope this saves someones vision some day.... ALWAYS WEAR GOOGLES WHEN CASE MODDING !
what do you fear losing your vision would be pretty bad but i know it sound stupid i fear losing all my hearing i guess its because i lost 20% out of both ears when i was younger because i alleays had earaches they put tubes in and every thing it all stoped by the age of 6 but it just scears be to hell because i love music its one of the greates things What do you fear the most?
yeah - although an friend was doing some dremaling while wearing gogles (we were at school) and the disc broke and got stuck in hie forehead!!
forehead? ouch! that sucks about your eye dude. my mom was in a car accident a few years ago that broke her knees, and because of her arthritis the knees fused, so she cant bend them [well a tiny tiny bit, but anyways] though i would hate to lose my hearing a ton, because i'm a music junkie, losing my site would suck hugely. not being able to look at a hott girl, ouch! plus i love photography and art and stuff. i wouldnt like that at all [not to mention not being able to drive] be careful all you youngins! [me speaks as a 17 year old, lol]
Dude, sorry to hear about your eye! Makes me think how close ive been to loosing my sight! Sorta the same thing happened to me a while ago, i got shot at point blank range in the eye with one of those bb's i dunno how but it didn't do much damage (saying that i have bad eyesight and use contact lenses). Another word of warning, always wear a mask when using spray paint! When i sprayed my case and bezels i got high as a kite and was sneezing metallic blue and silver goo for a week and a half!
At school, Cricket ball + right eye = never a good thing. I was wearing glasses at the time and the ball just smashed the lens righ out of one side. Thank the gods they were plastic lenses. All around my eye came up like a balloon, couldn't have worn my glasses even if they were ok. Now I have the same vision I have had for years (not good, can't read my screen without glasses) but other than that all ok. eye sockets are very tough for a good reason
When I was a younger, I was at Yoof Club and there's this fat idiot batting an empty coke can about with one of those plastic tennis raquet things. Stupid fat git managed to smack it into my eye! Youch!! Hurt a lot, had to go hospital where they dropped some orange dye in there. Told me that it had burst a blood vessel in my eye - sounds worse than it is. They gave me some cream I had to smear across my eye twice a day. It healed fairly quickly, I was lucky.
Even when you are wearing goggles, still be careful. Cutting a window for a case, wearing goggles, finished up, took off goggles, and without thinking scratched the corner of my eye because it was itching, of course, I had bits of metal on my hand. No real damage, but it did hurt
That sucks... i had alot of stitches and staples mostly my head, under my leg, chin etc but not as bad as yours asim
heh...=) *pictures Vo0Ds sneezing metallic blue and silver goo*...Anyway, I snapped a Dremel disc in November, and lucky for me, I was wearing goggles at the time. Those cutting discs do hurt though! Did I ever mention the time I nearly burnt off the pads of two of my fingers with a soldering iron? Thats a story for later =)
i have a fresh story of what could have been a bad out come i have a freind that works at game stop some times i stop there before i go to work and goof around with them any way for some reason he had a peice of wire wraped around his fingir for poking holes or something i dont know why but he forgot he had it the and he put his hand up to rubs his eye it was about 1 cm before he relized he still had it on his finger it could have went threw his eye
once when i was playing hockey, i was slammed into the boards, and hit the wall kind of weird, as a result my thumb was so damaged i had to have pins inserted into my finger , but i didnt have to do any homework for 10 weeks while it healed because luckly it was my writing hand
