ok my mom gave me this idea: one day my dad got pissed off cuz when i modded i left a HUGE mess, so he took my mouse. my dad is computer illeterate, so i tell him removing the mouse makes me have to set up the hardware and install it again, so my mom gave me the idea... is there a way i can set like some "block" or barrier to cover the area where i plug in wires on the back of my PC (dont know what the area is called) so i can lock it and my dad cant take my mouse?

    clever idea that.

the only way i could think of doing it would be to attatch a door over the area which can be locked in place. Not sure how you could do it tho, (im a noob).

Hows about attatching another bezel (one with the door on so you can access the cds).

Or you could glue in all your plugs.

Are you sure your dad's not just doing it to mess with you? I know as a parent myself...I don't think I would be above pulling out the mouse so that my daughter would have to restart her computer and maybe reset some setting. j/k

Maybe you should try not getting your dad mad? Sorry....that was the parent in me....

Okay...as a modder now....I would agree with a door type of cover. Maybe you could even make use of the "security" feature a lot of cases have where the back of the chassis and the side panel have a loop so that you can lock the panel on. Put the hinges on the motherboard side and have the door cover the entire back.

Of course you would have to take into account cooling...and how you get the cables plugged in and still be able to close the door....

Doh!!! i forgot about having to plug the cables in before you shut the door.

:miffed: :miffed: Deviate, ehy did you have to bring common sense into it. Dam You.

Ok my next idea could be to attatch all the cables to your pc, possibly by running the cables throught a padlock and locking it to your case. Though this doesnt stop it being unplugged.

Golf ball thingy this also does the same job, but again doesnt stop your dan unplugging it.

Change every connector into key-lockable BNC connectors. Or just use the door idea. I guess. Or wire everything straight into the motherboard, but that would be going a bit too far.

    how about this.

make some sort of "cover" with holes that you could fit the plugs thru .... like if its USB... turn it sideways. put through rectangle hole, and then twist it and lock it in place. easy because one cannot pull the plug right out. =)

    like this

    mouse---> o--------= <--usb end

    o-------|= [computer]

the 'bracket' would have a lenth wize rectangle in it, and would mount like that, the cable would be inserted (sideways) and after through, it would be turned to fit in the computer slot. then lock the bracket.

or, get a wireless mouse and take it with you.

    cheers.

why not try something like this:
and cut in the back cover some slits big enough for the cables, you would need some spacers so that the plugs have enough space and you should screw them onto the cover and onto the case...and just make an aluminium one so he doesn t break it, a thick one :p
    /hope this makes sense

    I got a brilliant idea.

Get another mouse! Recently I decided to mod a keyboard so I went by one of those charity places that collect used stuff and picke a keyboard for $3 and a mouse for $1....
best tactic is: don't piss off da man

ok, i'm not a dad so ... having been here myself...(not recently since the comps mine and my parents cant touch it..) I've got some suggestions...

since he's only taken the mouse... right? if he cant take that - he might take the keyboard.... so....

cut a small hole / slit in the back cover of your power supply... (when it's off is preferable / required)

drill a small hole in the base of the power supply - enough to fit one connector through at a time...

then on a spare slot bay - route the cables back outside and plug them in. Sure he might be able to unplug them - but if he cant remove them... just plug em back in and off you go again...

i know this is a bit of a crazy solution, but its a crazy idea!

And after doing all this, the dad got pissed off again and took the entire thing to his room and locked the door
Moral of this story, dont make a huge mess and dont piss off your dad :nono:

you could get 1 of those keyboards with the touchpads built for laptops but only use it wen he takes the mouse away

    or

drill a hole big enough for a usb plug in the back of your case then buy another cheap mouse and wire it up but hide the mouse in the actual case if ur dads computer illiterate he wont think about where the wire is going then wen he takes ur mouse away take the side panel of and use the back up 1

wow you're a terrible person

here's what you do. take the plugs for the front usb connecters and drop them back into the case. get a wireless mouse and hide it in there. when he takes the normal mouse you pull this one out and use it, cord free.

radical idea --> dont make him want to take it

woah... that was a radical idea...

seriously if you're making a mess and he tries to punish you, all power to HIM because my guess is you dont pay for most of the stuff you have/use/eat and he probably takes pride in what he has earned for you guys. be realistic dude. next time you do a mod and leave a mess he could, not only take the entire computer away, but i dont know... GROUND YOU

what they do here in my colleges computer lab is put a small padlock on all the wires coming out of the case... so like.. you can unplug them.. but you need the key to unlock the lock to actually get any of the stuff ... (the hole in the lock is only big enough for the wires) ... anyway.. if you run all your wires in a weird enough patter (like, printer above some post, mouse below, keyboard behind something) you need the key to actually get anything undone ... so... thus... non-stealable .... but thats just what they do here.. :worried: [its not a perfect answer.. but its cheap... a few bucks for a lock?]

hahahahaha ground you... Just gives you all the more chances to mod something elite! (It's so hard to get any free time these days...)

But I agree - dont make a mess cause it ruins your tools and means that the next mod will look poor :duh:

sumtimes it's unavoidable tho! Good luk!

Btw - why is your mum (aussie spelling here) backing you up and giving you ideas to defend against your dad? This really puzzles me...

    That is all...
