I have a WD 80gb sitting next to me that i can barely hear,i really have to put my ear to the case to be able to hear it. In that same comp sits a 8gb WD that has been running daily for about 6 years i think, switched between computers a bit but has never ever let me down. Didn't quite compare it to a seagate, but since everyone here votes seagate, i just wanted to say that WD has served me very wel so far.

Yup, Seagate should always come with a full 5 year warranty (from date of manufacture). They are also very reliable, cool running and quiet too. Do be warned that it is possible (though rare) to get a 1 year warranty Seagate HD. These are OEM HDs but not in the usual sense (ie reduced packaging etc). These OEM versions are designed for major system builders (eg Dell or Gateway) who will then themselves take over warranty for the computer as a whole (inc the HD). So any reputable seller should sell you the 5 year version (which can be retail or OEM, just ones Seagate intended for actual consumers). So always ensure wherever you buy from clearly state '5 year warranty'. IMHO WD are over-rated and still rely on the reputation they created by being first to market with 8MB cache and later the 10,000rpm Raptors. Seagate, no question.
But for some reasion this seagate has only a 60 day warrenty. True that if something was to go wrong, it usualy would happen in the first month, it would suck having the drive 6 months and it crapping out.
Theres your problem right there, tigerdirect arent nearly as helpful or reputable when it comes to warrenties as newegg. The one at newegg has a 5 year warrenty : here
Ive gona all Seagate cos im so happy with the performance/noise/reliability of them. Go for Seagate!!!
i ordered the seagate, i have had many many different hard drives in my day and NEVER had a problem (knock on wood). The hard drive is mostly to put all my dvd's on it so when i go to college i dont need to take all of them with me so it wouldnt be a major deal if something happened. thanks for all the input!
