no one around here..... basicly i just read everything and anything on the net that will help me. all done by me, it just makes it just that much cooler!

    i mean someone asks
    "did you do that?!"
    and your like
"yeah....well...... most of it.... my pop helped...."

    as compared to
    "did you do that?!"
    "yup!"

I have a helping hand in form of The Militant, he's a member on this board and a workmate, he is quite happy to do my electronic stuff as I am capable but really slow... and frankly most of the time I don't have the time with two jobs and that... :(

It made me kinda sad to see all thos replies that Dad helped. My father died almost 30 years ago when I was the age of some of you or older. He never helped me with anything like this but it woulda been cool if he did.

Like some of the others, I learned from people like you guys. I read the articles and messages and try my hand. I used to build model cars a million years ago and I still work with my hands doing flooring and other mechanical skill type stuff. I have a knack, but what I know about modding, I learned here. Never had so much fun. Never spent so much on a hobby either. Wait, maybe I have. I'm customizing a '65 T'bird very slowly and that's expensive.

heh, im the only one in my province that mod's as far as i know, the only help i get is holding things if i need it, or i just get my cat to hold things down, lol, im serious, i wave it in his face and put it down and he'll put his paws on it and leave them till i take it away...usually wires or circuits that move when i dun want em too

I do all my modding on my own. Get advice of lots of peeps but generally do it meself.

Occassionally calling on the housemates to hold the case down while I mutilate it :D

Damn, a lot of you guys got help from your dad. I guess that's cool you can ask him for stuff like that, my dad just looks at me like I'm crazy when I whip out my dremel and start cutting my window heh.

My dad didn't really do any work to help me out physically, but he did buy me my dremel.

All my actual first modding was done by myself. This included cutting a window with 120mm intake, a 120mm blowhole, and then painting.

All the help I recieved was from people on IRC and How-To's posted on various sites.

Thanks, Daneo. I didn't mean to make it a tear jerker. I'm kinda anxious to get more work done on my first mod -- the weather's been rotten for painting the last couple of weeks. I wanna post pics and say thanks to all the modders that have helped me, even if they didn't know they did.

It's kinda wierd being an old guy around all you young punks (speaking affectionately). I'm havin' a lot of fun with it though and learnin' a lot. I just started out gonna build my first non-Intel computer and try out some over-clocking. Then I stumble on this modding stuff and I'm hooked.

No, Vec, YOU da man. :baby: I can't wait to see how my current project turns out either. But you're doin' good too. Yer gonna have a fine piece of machinery.

As fer you, Daneo, good buddy, ol' pal. You really know how to hurt a guy. I'd bitch slap ya if my arthritus wasn't keepin me down. Now, the only thing I can do to make myself feel better, is post a pic of a modder older'n me. Well, she ain't a modder, she's my mudder. She did help me out today though, so she fits right in with the thread topic.

i'm so glad you feel like a kid again grump...
and i've never gotten any kind of support from anybody, especially me dad, who thinks modding is a waste of time, and a good way of ruining a computer case...
"what was the point in painting that case, son? now it'll get scratched really easily, and then you'll never be able to sell it!!!"
that's his bloody motto: if it works, leave it alone, and everything like having a quiet fan or good 3d card is a luxury...and if you standardize, you won't have to put up with installing the new drivers"

    bloody hell...
why couldn't i have been stuck with a dad who's somewhat creative, or individual...
