Yesterday afternoon I come home, my sister tells me my computer is broken. I check it out and find out the harddisk which has cost me €150 is dead. So ok... buy a new harddisk, no problem...

Today I get to work with my laptop and all CD's I need to put Windows Xp Professional on it, because I miss too much when I'm using Xp Home, which I got together with my laptop. So when I get at work, I do some hard work and create a new partition while resizing the other one. I get on a break, drink a cup of coffee, get back and see my laptop has crashed while resizing the partition I used to store my website backups, truckloads of pictures, a ****load of music, and a few DVD rips. One partition destroyed. I got in a totally ****** up mood, and tried to install windows on the new partition. First time went wrong, dont even know what made it go like this, but suddenly I had an extra 11Gb partition, which wasn't possible because I went straight over the size of the harddisk.... So I remove all partitions, no more chances on recovery, everything was trashed.

So in 2 days I think I got myself about... let's say €500 of damage... Someone is going to start over ripping his CD's and DVD's... the pictures are lost and already were irreplacable (this hurts...) and at this moment I am downloading my websites.... :waah:

That's really horrible. Sorry to hear that.

Although, it can be a reminder to everyone to back up, especially pictures.

So the moral of this story is: Back up your data!

Sucks that you lost all your stuff man.

If you haven't written over them too much yet, Try FileScavenger (if you had NTFS, it will find and recover EVERYTHING)

I lost a 240GB Raid partition, and it found ALL my stuff, Windoze didn't even know there was a drive there... I trust it implicitly...

    google for file scavenger.

Finally I have the newest version of my website back. Luckily I didn't change anything after the last upload, so it's entirely up-to-date.

As for the pictures, I found out a few of them were stored on my website as well, which was quite a relief for me. But so much got lost....

    Remember, backup everything!! Preferably twice!!!

My condolences on the loss of your data. I know how hard that can be, I've been through it many times.

The trouble with backing up my data is...... How the forkin' hell am I supposed to back up 80GB's of data?! I'm not putting it all on CD's :eeek:, and that would be a hell of a lot of DVD-R's! I guess it's just a good thing that all the data is on my file server, that's left running in a cupboard, not touched, not ****ed with, not even looked at... It still won't protect against component failure tho :(. I think I ought to get meself a SATA RAIO 0+1 array on the go :D. Fault tolerant systems, all the way  :)

backup od 80 gb is no problem.. just but a external 120GB disc or something... and connect it ONLY when you need it... store it in a fireproof box for extra safety.. ;)

*checks the prices of external drives > 100gb.....*

    *checks wallet contents...*

    *kills moths in wallet*

Ahaaaaa, that's why I haven't done it yet :). To be honest tho, I haven't lost any data for a while now. My FS isn't messed with, so there's less chance of anything screwing up
