I read the headline, then laughed uncontrollably for a solid minute before I could click through.

Methinks now is a good time to set my internet connection to "metered".

Again MS screw up but if you are running a graphics card that old, why are you trying to use Windows 10?

Because Windows 8.1 left mainstream support in January this year, and Windows 7 in January 2015? Because Microsoft pushed people to upgrade really, really hard, complete with constant nagging in the system tray and a l00k buy n0w limited time 0ffer!!!!111oneeleven to upgrade for free? Because there's no reason Windows 10, which is Windows 8.1 with bells on, which is Windows 8 with a .1 on the end, which is a shinier Windows 7 shouldn't support a ten-year-old graphics card?

    Pick yer favourite, really.

If it's a just a shiny windows 7, why do I not remember weekly bug articles about 7 wetting the bed?
-And if my cmos battery goes dead, why do I have to dig through the 'shiny' until I find the windows 98-era date-time settings gui to get the clock time changed.

So am I right in thinking this will affect ALL machines that rely on mapped drives ? One of my customers uses software that relies on a drive being mapped.

Is there a link to this workaround script? This doesn't sound fun at all.

Good job, MS. You removed your QA team and look where we are. :D

Microsoft doesn't care much for Windows anymore, there's not even a dedicated Windows department these days. As Mr Nadella said Microsoft is a devices and services company now whose primary prioritises are in mobile and cloud services.

Try the short scripts at the end of the blog post in the link below instead, it actually works. Setting the connection to metered gets ignored by MS every now and then.

My work machine has a 4000 series in it. Doubt the company will be updating that when I get Win10 in the next couple months.

I'm not convinced Win 10 is a shinier Win 7 - every time I plug a storage peripheral into my 10 machine and then put it into my 7 box, it either fails to be recognised, shows as requiring formatting, or shows as having no available space. I am fast running out of time to look into solutions for these issues and therefore also storage space.

If anyone has a solution to this problem, I would be grateful for the info.

I'm flopping drives from 10, 7, vista, and XP with no problems. Sounds like you won the 10bug lottery.

I had zero problems with external exFAT drives on Win10 and my MacBook until the latter randomly started acting up with them.
