Wouldn't a 512bit bus mean a massive increase in chip-size, just to have the output for that all? It would involve Nvidia either a; Making a new chip, or b; another partner actually producing the GPU die, rather than just the board it goes into. On a side note; I thought the trick to fix the min-fps bug in Heaven was to let it run through once without hitting benchmark, then tell it to go?
So I misread your post. Any need for the attitude? With 1440P and higher, it makes no difference here... I still get the stuttering at the start.
hello, when a 680 owner got a minute, can you run a benchmark with the settings below, then i can see how me rusty old 5850's compare, many thanks. http://i44.tinypic.com/wuh201.png
Excuse me? You reply to me suggesting I am clearly wrong, then (from my POV) completely contradict yourself on the same page and I try to make a little joke out of it - hardly insulting saying you changed your mind and then you try to pull me apart... Last night someone was really rude to you for the same thing, unfairly, and i stuck up for you and reported the guy, just for you to not read a post properly again and then I get accused of having an attitude!
Not unless AMD really works their asses off to release the 8000 series in an attempt to beat the current GTX 6xx. I doubt it'll happen, though. Although Nvidia sitting with the performance and efficiency crowns is going to be a tough pill to swallow for AMD. Side note; both companies are starting to run out of numbers. They'll have to do something about it soon.
Think expecting another architecture this year is crazy AMD won't be releasing 8000 series this year they can't even supply the current 7970 in decent quantities, if you wait for the next big thing you will still be waiting till 2020 You either need a card or dont 680 is best right now end of discussion really
From what I have read, the GK110 (GTX 780) is a fully fledge Kepler architecture, and what the GTX 680 GK104 is, is a dubbed down version. The GTX 680 was just released to take on the HD7970. From other sources, AMD have got the HD7990/8970 ready to beat the GTX 680. NV have also got the GTX 780 ready, and will rebrand the GTX 680 as a GTX 760. A GTX 770 will be a down clocked version of the 780 with the GK110 chip. It's all one big marketing 'ploy' to make us more poorer... (Any words in my last few post that don't make sense, is due to my phones predicted text. As someone has pointed out).
Sorry... for some reason I just didn't read your comment as a joke. Apologies if it was meant to be. Arse. Yes.. you're right... I was hoping for the 512 memory bus soon... never mind. Well that's settled then. Sell my 580s when EVGA release the Cheesecake, or whichever one will be 4GB.
For someone like me who plays at 1080, the 680 will be quite good. Better than my GDDR limited 560Ti SLI setup. I don't need 2500 or 4500 resolution. I don't have quad monitors, just a single 3d.
Getting a 680 to have a 512 bit bus is a full redesign no? I am hopeful the 4GB version will be okay even with 256...
Looking at T_G's thread regarding VRAM usage and the comments in this thread does anyone think that 2gb would be sufficient for 2560x1440 or again would it be advisable to hold out for a bigger VRAM card? So tempted to buy one of these for my rig but want it to run ok for at least a year or two....
That is just like one big convoluted conspiracy. I doubt AMD has the ability, or want, to launch the 8000 series yet, though, simply because they need the 7000 series to keep selling so they can recoup Development costs and such. Nvidia might have a new chip ready to go out of the door, but it's not in their interests to completely demolish AMD. They need the competition. I expect to see the AMD 7990, which noone intelligent will buy, because single card Dual GPU solutions usually suck balls, then we wait a while, Nvidia pips AMD to the post and launches the 800 series, AMD counters with the 8000, rinse and repeat. I doubt we'll see a larger memory bus in this generation, a new chip, maybe, but it's not going to happen unless someone manages to convince Nvidia to change existing designs. So I don't think we'll be seeing a GTX 685 Memory-whore edition.
I reckon a single 680 2GB is fantastic. Great performance, great power consumption, nice sized PCB and runs cool. Those that only want one graphics card for the foreseeable, its a good choice. Its those that are wanting to have two in SLI at some point, or at least have SLI as an option, need to consider the entire memory issue (interface and VRAM). tbf running at 1440p; its hard to 'ultra proof' a system for a year, let alone 2!
