Forum went down for me most of the day yesterday, as well. Nothing any more but still seems a wee bit sluggish today, could just be my connection though. Heck even Facebook was flipping the hell out yesterday, too. Along with most other forums I visit.
Well that was unpleasant... I just had the "502 Bad Gateway" error from nginx when attempting to access the forums for about 10 minutes.
Hi All, between Antony, Matt and I we are taking 'editor' duties. The way media and publishing works nowadays (if you want a really boring explanation DM me and I'll try to explain but it is quite boring!) we felt we no longer needed an 'editor'. But we're always reading feedback, working on it, but replying isn't always the first priority, we'd rather focus on content and making site great. Just being honest. Sorry... Re speed: Sometimes servers fail. Happens to every company, we're in the fortunate position of having an awesome community who notice these things quickly as you all love the site. We're also in the unfortunate position of having an awesome community who notice these things quickly as they love the site. If it's any consolation, we noticed the problem whilst we were at Computex and had to rally engineers in London and Bath via our hotel in Taipei as they dragged themselves out of bed at 1 in the morning to fix it. It was a fun morning for all concerned, including yourselves it seems! Hope that clears everything up. Please don't DM me to explain modern media landscape. When we do the bit-tech BIG DAY OUT (stay tuned) I'll explain it over a beer if you really, really want me to explain it
Thanks for coming back John, I know you're a few thousand miles away so it's appreciated. One of the things that this site misses nowadays is a connection between staff/writers and users. When I first started frequenting this site about a decade ago, it was commonplace to see the red and blue names mixing it up all over the forums. Indeed, a handful of the old guard still occasionally prop up the bar in a few less "formal" parts of the forum. Now I know I can't insist that you all get more involved - it's entirely up to you whether you want to be a part of your own community of just treat the whole thing as a job. We're probably just a bunch of boring b*stards bickering and taking the piss out of one another most of the time, but there is definitely a disconnect where once there was none.
I'd second that - the involvement of the writing team in the forums, and the fact that they responded to comments about articles, was part of what made bit-tech stand out from the rest of the crowd. It's all steps in the right direction though (and, frankly, any step that gets us further away from Dennis is a good thing ).
