it was actually the phobya fan i caught myself on running on 12v got a nice bloody thumb, hurt more than airsofting last night ><
Mine arrived this morning, only just got chance to look at it now though. Nice packaging, cables feel good, fan is solid (I've had one that felt that flimsy I'm surprised it even worked). Loved the length of the cable on the fan, makes a change to have plenty of spare rather than that tight you can't move it. Fan extender came in useful to add the top fan on my case without the need to hide even more molex converters. Put the fan in the side, blowing air onto my graphics cards, good airflow through it, slightly noisier than my current CoolerMaster ones that came in the case though. I think it'll be off for general home use, but most certainly wouldn't be an issue while gaming / at a lan event where there is that much ambient noise already. Overall, I'm impressed with the products, thumbs up!
Slowed it down a tiny bit, and its now quieter than my existing fans and still giving very good air flow... time for me to investigate a fan controller
Do you like them? Yes Would you buy them? Yes What would you change? Some screws with the fan would be nice (I will be using the previous fans's screws). Do you like the quality? Braiding feels nice and tight looks fab. Hardly notice the wires inside. [/IMG]
Great feedback there guys! Keep it comming As for the fan blades these are remove able but just need a bit of a push
My box turned up today! Initial impressions are very high build quality, and looks good. I haven't used it as I'm at work, however if it lives up to its stated stats, it should be very quiet and efficient with it. My current PC case is huge, but also quite solid-sided so I won't really get the full effect of LED fans in this case, but it looks great nonetheless!
Put it on the back of the case and then you can pretend that you have a small nuclear reactor or furnace inside powering your pc - as shown by the ominous red glow from the rear
Can't wait to test my fan, turned up yesterday took me completely by surprise, but haven't had time to play with them yet.
Do you like them? Yes Would you buy them? Most likely What would you change? Probably the colour of the fan braiding to something less auspicious, ie. black Do you like the quality? Yes, the braiding is of an excellent standard, and the fan is quiet in operation.
Thats even better easyer cleaning ;P Side note, I have connected it to my CoolerMaster AeroGate and in speedfan im seeing 1318RPM on full. On Minimum i get 989RPM. Thses the same for anyone else? Or is it jsut my fan controller? As i thought id get 1500RPM as it says on the box.
Well my stuff turned up on Monday and I have to say I like the fan alot. Do you like them? The fan and the fan extension are great, I personally don't have a use for the 8pin extender. Would you buy them? Yes. Definately the fan as i found it to be the right balence of air flow and noise. What would you change? The addition of a molex adaptor for the fan and the inclusion of ruber mounts for the fan would make it much better. Do you like the quality? Yes. I liked the translucene on the fan blades. The extension cables are also nice, It's not Muder mod sleaving, but then nothing else matches that. As it is I'm very happy with the quality of the items.
Pedro's Mini Review First impressions The packaging is OK. there aren't any blister packs in sight, which is good, but it's also a shame I don't get to whip out the Dremel. The plastic bag was already ripped when it arrived, but I'll let that slide for now. The packaging of the fan is very high quality; I like the window in the glossy cardboard. The back seems to contain a lot of marketing hype. We don't need to be told about the "Hydro Dynamicbearing Technology without oil leaking" three times in English alone. The translation is sloppy ("Technishe Daten" under the British flag). "Polycarbonat" [sic] is misspelled. Little things that detract from the overall aesthetics of the packaging. Cable Extensions The cables and connectors used are of a good quality. I measured a resistance of just 0.05 Ohms, which is very respectable indeed. The connectors themselves feel sturdy and they lock into place well. On the fan cable the individual cables are covered with heatshrink tubing at the end, personally I would have preferred to see the sleeving go further down so they wouldn't have to be covered by individual tubes. The heatshrink used doesn't fit tightly on the wires. It doesn't have an adhesive covering either so it was possible to slide it along the wires fairly easily. This shouldn't be a huge problem once the cable is fitted within a case, however a lack of tension in the sleeving causes it to balloon outwards, making the wires more visible. This side by side comparison compares the Phobya sleeving against a no-name brand (on the bottom). The Phobya sleeving isn't the highest quality I've ever seen, but it's far from the worst too. Verdict £2.12 isn't a bad price to pay for a quality cable extension, in my opinion. It's a simple product, but it does what it does and it does it well. If you need to extend a fan cable, I can recommend Phobya's offerings. 5 out of 5 stars. Phobya G-Silent 12 1500rpm Red LED Fan I like the aesthetics of this fan. The transparent blades and clear frame look great in the light and are lit up well in the dark. The illumination is more even in real life as the pictures don't do it justice. If you don't like LED fans, the LEDs are very easy to disable - the legs are exposed and very easy to snip with a pair of wire cutters. The sleeving on the wires is of a good quality and even the heatshrink tubing is white to match the colour scheme. I tested the airflow by timing how long the fan took to fill a plastic bag. Phobya rates the G-Silent 12 at pushing 58cfm (cubic feet per minute) of air. My own testing found that rating to be a slight overestimate. I measured 55cfm (a 5% difference). This is still rather good for the amount of noise the fan makes. I don't have a decibel meter of any high quality microphones so I have to judge the noise subjectively. The fan isn't too loud, but I would class it as being super quiet either. Silent Eagle 1000s and pretty much anything by Noctua will be quieter, but move less air. The tonal quality is good - you can hear the fan, but it isn't an annoying noise. The frame transmitted a fair amount of vibrations as the plastic seems very rigid and hard. The fan worked well when undervolted. Verdict The fan is available for £6.21. I think this fan would be well suited to people looking for a quiet machine without breaking the bank. Run it at 7v and you get a very good airflow to noise ratio for just over six quid, however bear in mind that some corners have been cut; the fan is provided without mounting screws or a molex to 3-pin converter so bare those added extras in mind if working to a budget. 4 out of 5 stars.
Nah, that was the abridged version. I didn't even test static pressure (instinct tells me it feels good), do a teardown or film the unboxing.
Here's mine installed Goes nicely with 5 x 140mm Phobya fans i'm already using. Decent braiding on the cables - 4 out of 5 Thanks Phobya and Aquatuning
This. Do you like them? Yes - the red glow from the fan is lovely (and will work well with a mod I've been doing - completion planned for mid august!) Noise wise - actually really good. Turned down, it still shifts air, turned up, it shifts quite a bit of air! At full tilt, its very acceptable for a gaming rig (however a little too loud for my media rig). The cables are good sturdy quality. The sleeving is ok, however it could be more tightly woven. TBH, the quality is more than good enough, provided you aren't going to be inspecting it on a daily basis at a 10cm distance Would you buy them? Hadn't planned on buying any additional/new fans for my Antec 300 WC-mod/setup, however, I'm now thinking that the red glow may just be what the mod needs! What would you change? Tighter cable sleeving/weeves Do you like the quality? Yes - the fan itself seems quite tough (already caught one of the blades on something or other - it didn't dent/scratch so thats a positive in my books - recently lost a Scythe thanks to knocking a blade at 1900rpm ) And the cables themselves are sturdy, as I've said before. Cheers AquaTuning & Phobya! (High detail pics will probably come during the weekend.)
I was fortunate enough to win a blue kit. Packaging arrived a bit beaten up, but I loved Aquatuning stickers all over the parcel - made me grin. The contents were all in perfect condition I was then slightly suprised to find that my blue kit contained a red LED fan. I see now that Phobya dont do a blue fan, but I was dissapointed by this. The text on the packaging (as mentioned in other posts) is a bit cr@p and devalues the product before you even get to the fan. I connected the fan up and was also suprised to see there was no direction of airflow/rotation indicator on the fan moulding. Obviously it's not hard to work out once you've powered up the fan, but it costs nothing to add... The fan seemed decent enough, if a touch loud for my liking. Because it's red, and noiser than my existing blue LED case fans, it wont be getting a permanent installation in my case. Would I buy one - maaaybe, if the colour was right. The cables I was very happy with, I installed the blue fan extension lead right away as it complements my system colour nicely and the braiding was of a good quality. It's given me some much needed length (ho ho!) so when my case window comes off the panel fan doesnt yank itself off the motherboard header each time. I'd deffinately consider buying any more cables from Phobya/Aquatuning. As far as the compo/giveaway goes - I've been a long time reader (2001 maybe?) but only a very occasional forum visitor/poster, so I was happy there wasnt a huge post count requirement. I knew nothing about Aquatuning prior to this - so from a PR excercise POV it's worked nicely. I'm now a facebook fan and will check your webby whenever I need to order stuff. Thanks to all involved.
Mildly delayed review - will take some pictures when my flash gets here hopefully, or when I manage to set up a mini area downstairs... Do you like them? yes Would you buy them? I tend to make my own cable extensions, so possibly not, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others... the fans possibly not because you can't turn the LED's off which is an issue when you 24/7 your pc, as a showpiece though, possibly. What would you change? If I could, i'd choose a slightly tighter braid, it's slightly loser than I'd hope for, and given that the fan uses white heatshrink, the extensions should do as well to match. I like the individual heatshrinking on the fan extension, but I'd prefer it if the other end was identical, again, matching is better. And I agree on what I noticed in another comment that the heatshrink can be pulled up, which might be an issue. Do you like the quality? Overall - for pre-made kit, yes, it's worth the price it goes for on the site, just a few improvements and it'd be perfect. Comeptition wise - as I was one of the first in, I can't complain! Taaaa!
