Excellent work on the mobo tray. You do some great work with files. I also like that you're bringing something new to fans as I tire of their usual cheap, redundant look. Those will look really nice.
Having settled on the PVC bushings for the fan bodies, some supports needed to be made to hold the fan motors. These are marked up and cut from 3mm sheet. With the fan motor mounts cut and fixed to the fan body, they can be filed to better fit the curves of the body. Back soon.
^ fixed that for ya' Excellent handiwork there newb. I really like how this build is coming together as well. Might I guess that your avatar is a particular angle of the new build?
My first thought when I saw the photo of the hole saw drilling into the 8mm aluminum was, "Oh no, he took apart Cygnus and is using the wood as a drilling platform."
The fans will be mounted to a front panel and this panel is the last large aluminium part. It's 8mm and will form only about half of the front panel. All the straight edges are filed true first. And then the cut-outs for the fan bodies are sanded down until the bodies fit tightly. Nearly there. And how they will look. Back soon.
How in the holy hell did I miss the first 6 weeks of this build?! Not sure about anyone else, but I am digging that while its obvious he has plans (and he teases us a bit with them in the photography), he isn't throwing the design up first. The journey is half the fun right? Love the hard drive mount/solution Love the metal work (as always, and jealous too) Love that you sold the case and some gear for an upgraded drill press. (I mean really, if you can build things like CX1 from scratch, what would you EVER need with a stock case, even one as nice as the Corsair ?) LOVE that the metal thickness is going up. The next build will probably be just be an armored sphere 20mm thick. Hate that we have to wait for art.
Right on the money.....Just the word I was looking for. I remember the german industrial band "Die Krupps" had a hit called "To The Hilt" The worst video ever, but a cool song. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2sxrm_die-krupps-to-the-hilt_music
To tie the front and rear together, I'm going to use some 20mm clear acrylic. Once this is cut and filed, it's drilled and tapped for location at the top of the chassis. M4 countersunk screws are used here.
Hi Atilla, Its great to see you back here with yet another mouthwatering build. Congratulations on the success of Cygnus, it was truly worthy of the praise and adoration and was a glowing testament to your patience and skill. I noticed that wood also that you were using for a drill press bench, and I recognised it from Cygnus. I think you should combine it with some Aluminium and make a keyboard for Cygnus...lol Look forward to seeing you toil in the workshop again this Year, good luck with the build.
Oh crap...I think I was just called out Its been 5 months to be exact. No excuses seem appropriate, but the project is not dead.
The case will be supported by four struts terminating in some turned pads (feet). Below is the original SU design. A template was made from the SU measurements. And then transferred to the bar. And then the struts are cut from 12mm x 40mm bar. This was quite difficult because of the small size. I first made one strut (roughly) to get a look at it in place. And with a disc to get a rough idea with a pad. Hmmm, not bad.
Oh man, I kept away from this thread because I thought it was some sort of fantasy LoTR mod. Then I saw who the author was. As expected, completely amazinggg.
