Re the 3070, will AIBs have to keep the power connector in the middle - is it an unavoidable constraint? Unusual.
*Cries in 1060 6GB* My hope is always for the mid range to have it's prices driven down, RTX 20XX emphatically didn't do that. Also, something better at the bottom end than the 1650 has been...
Well I just checked and I am certain that my 2070, 2070S and 2080Ti are all fine for the time being. It didn't self detonate and whiff of farts. That's the Ti, 1440p UN and yeah, it throws it around like a ragdoll. I want the new Xbox. Couch gaming is something I avoided for 20 years, but holy crap it's so nice.
Depends on PCB design probably. With them being so small, they kind of have to be in the middle of the cooler without resorting to naff internal extensions.
No I can't see that happening at all. AIBs are using standard rectangular PCBs atm, though do expect some to be cut down like the 670? There are some up on OCUK. Not 3070 yet, but AIB cards. All way over the price of the FE as per usual. Gibbo must have his spoon out ready for the gouge.
They're about the price I'd expect. Some of the 3080 are £650 if you want a bland cooler. Strix is £150 more, no real shock. Even Asus have a card at entry level price though.
Well our argument can continue then, because I like the 3080 cooler. It's really well made and looks lovely. I wouldn't want to buy some plastic tat for more money. I've currently got my fishing rod out. I'm after a 2080Ti FE to match the block I have for £550. Reckon a day or two I should get one easy.
I'm simply stating facts mate (and actual facts this time. lol) that there are some at the founders edition price and some more advanced more expensive boards, same as there always is. Not saying you have to like it or buy one but it's the same as it has been for a long ass time. They haven't yet shaken the "reference" references despite renaming them "founders" and putting a shed ton of resources into it. The goofy design will not be to some's taste. There will be some with brand loyalty. With AIBs will come bigger power circuitry and factory overclocks for those that don't like meddling. There's a place for them all, a price for them all, a market for them all.
I really like the design of the 3090/3080 cooler, but im not a big fan of packing that much power in a truncated board to do it. The 3070, the one I would actually consider buying, I do not like at all from a cooler perspective, when the gigabyte 1050 I briefly owned did dual fan much better (and I wish more companies would do this) and would feel an partner board would do much better. if one was not aware of the specific model of 1050 I had it was one of the few 1050's that had a pci-e power connector, and one of the fans was reversed in blade direction and rotation so it would suck from the front of the case pass though over the naughty bits and blow back out (in my case down into the fan up basement power supply) it was a good card thermally just the 2 gig of ram killed it. Then XFX honored the lifetime warranty of my 7950 double d and sent me a 4 gig (questionably overclocked cause dang this thing can convert power to heat) RX570, and that was the end of that (to put a time scale on this that stupid 1050 cost just under 200$ so just at the end of the mining BS, and a 570 was durn near 400$ at the time) Nvidia really got me with the 3070, that's a pretty beefy card for what they are asking, and I am interested in what comes out in the quick future (TI and or Super) maybe in a 60 variant. AMD is also in play, though to what means I dunno, every ATI/AMD card I have ever owned has been good, but not great especially in price vs performance ... and has the issue of running hotter than 2 hells which on every single one to date since the rage 128's has eventually dead ram (including my 9750, though to be fair I still have a 4890 form 11 years ago doing just fine)
It has begun. I checked CEX pricing before the stream - They were offering to pay £191 for a GTX1080. This morning that's already down to £155.
I'll be super happy with a 10GB 3080 for my gaming box given that I'm currently rocking an 8GB 1070, although for GPGPU I'd either want a pair of 3090's (VRAM is very important) or wait for the rumoured 20GB 3080. Either I'm not looking in the right (wrong?) places, or I've become immune to prices appearing to have no sense... but I can't find anywhere that seems particularly extortionate when 20% VAT is factored in. Many places don't seem to be listing prices?
Might be tempted to upgrade my trusty GTX980Ti But then i'm pretty sure my i5 3570k might be a bottleneck, if it isn't already!
Same. The idea of having airflow through cooler and idea of cooler design taking account of overall system airflow. The open air 2/3 fan cooler designs used up to now just doesn't work. Hot air works against front intake fans. For me, 3070 only have 8GB is disappointing. There are many games already using all of my 8GB at 1440p and VR games needing to limit quality. I'm going to wait for AMD to drop Big-Navi, then hopefully nVidia 7nm refresh with similar prices. 1070Ti still works okay.
Do we? RTX 3070 Founders Edition, UK price £469. RTX 3070 Founders Edition, US price $499. $499 USD in GBP at interbank rates, £372. £372 plus 20% VAT, £446.40. A £22.60 premium - 5.06 percent - doesn't sound too bad to me, especially given there are additional costs to selling in the UK beyond simply slapping VAT on top (such as a higher minimum wage, more stringent consumer protection laws, import costs...)
