?

Should I paint the outside black (then varnish) or simply varnish the veneer?

You won't be saying once I've squeezed that psu in there with all those cables. It's great that it's small (150 x 81.5 x 40.6 mm) and an 80+ but it's technically a 1U rack mount psu and not modular. I can't cut back the cables I don't need now though because I'll need them later when I swap out the hotswap :(

Thanks Bobby :) White and blue is a great combo as evidenced by your terrific looking build Alpine White TJ07 (if you haven't seen it click here to view http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=241495 ;)) but mine's not actually going to be white. As lovely as that would look it's going to be sitting in full view on a cream cabinet so that's a :nono: for me on this occasion. Damn, for a moment there I thought maybe next time. No no no no no :wallbash::wallbash:

    Thanks dearest :)

    I don't think they do.

Thank you for saying so :) Believe it or not it's taken a lot of time and effort. It's a serious b*tch rough-drawing and rotating components and the case in Sketchup to arrive at the best layout in the smallest space whilst still to be able to get access to everything inside when needed. Hopefully it'll work in practice as well as it does in my head :worried:

I deliberately did nothing on it over the weekend just so you'd have to wait :D I do work for a living you know  but I'll be back on it this weekend and it should be finished within 2 weeks  Even Jeff took time off from his build - about 2 months wasn't it ;)

Well pardon me for not working on it in the office, Spreadie :p and Yehbaby it doesn't matter how many times you rep me to get on with it I'll do it when I can :(

I have managed to do some work on it today though :)

The trim turned up without fixing holes :(

    But that's been sorted now:

And I've veneered the outside of the box and the lid now:

Now what's going in the cut-outs in the lid is capped dichroic glass. Since I don't have a kiln Teelzebub very kindly offered to make them for me (thanks sweetie :)) So here they are.

Dichroic and capping glass cut to size:

In the kiln, ready to be fired:

And this is the finished article - you can never tell quite what colour they're going to come out and it changes according to how the light hits it.

Thanks again Tel. You're an angel and you did a brilliant job

Now tomorrow I'm thinking of spraying the outside of the box black :D

    Sparkly! :cooldude:

How did you do the lid, Carrie? Did you cut the triangles right through and then glue a bottom piece on?

:nono: Router and a chisel to finish it off ;) I don't like routers but hate jigsaws even more, hence the angle grinder for the case chop!

Carrie, it is only very friendly encouragement, honest :D I'll stop doing it so you can work your magic :dremel: and save it for the finished product :thumb:

This is looking very good. I like the idea of using glass :thumb:
