Yes you are right. Just looking for the right price. I was about to buy the Asus GTX580 Direct CUii a few days ago for £353. But price now jumped to £375. So probably wait till it dips again.
here's your rebranded radeon 7xxx series http://vr-zone.com/articles/amd-rad...rce-600m-mainstream-gpus-announced/14161.html nvidia's doing the same thing too
We always knew the 79xx parts were due q1 2012, what I'm interested in though is the 7870. After a quick google, some reports are saying the 79xx might come first, with 78xx to follow in march or april.
This to me makes sense, Roll out new high end parts, reduce price on 6950/6970 parts and you can keep selling off whatever stock they have left and probably shift most of it in the couple of months between jan-march. People will revel in the (new) mid-range with the reduced 6970 competing price-wise with the 560ti (and destroying it mostly, performance wise) and the high end parts will be selling well to the enthusiasts (Since we can make educated guesses that the 7850/70 will be around about the same performance as the 6950/70 just lower power draw, less heat...) I think that's understandable and sort of makes sense. Might just be me thinking like that though. Feel free to shoot me down with better ideas though!
Suspected 79xx spotted, looks like it has the wide 384-bit bus. http://vr-zone.com/articles/amd-southern-islands-tahiti--hd-7900-pictured/14183.html
Also looks like we might have some more information on a release date. How accurate this info is you can judge for yourselves, I know the source is sometimes not given the best image across the web but hey.. I like straws!! http://www.techpowerup.com/156641/January-9-Launch-Date-for-AMD-Radeon-HD-7900.html Roll on January 9th, screw christmas!!
http://vr-zone.com/articles/amd-bri...-series-forward-december-22nd-2011/14255.html December 22nd launches 7970. So when is BT's review will be up?
If this date turns out to be true. Tough luck AMD you lost out on my money as now bought gtx580. I couldn't wait much longer as the wife would have found another use for the money. It would have been my first AMD/ATI since the ATI 9700. Should have let me know a couple of weeks ago.
Yeah price rumour is 500 Euros for the 7970. With the exchange rate that's practically the same in £'s. Would have been too expensive for me.
Any tips for getting your hands on one if released on the 22nd? Will the first batch all be reference designs?
£500? Sure you're not hearing rumors for the 7990? The 7970 fits in the same slot as the 6970 before it, £300 or so, maybe slighty more on release.
Sounds about right, the rumours I've read have all had the 7970 at around 500 euros so I guess around £400-£450. It's all speculation though.
Yeah 500 Euros (£450) seems like a lot considering the current financial situation. But here is the source (it is only a rumour at this stage) http://vr-zone.com/articles/amd-radeon-hd-7970-pricing-revealed/14224.html
I suppose it's not impossible, but it'd sure mean a change in AMDs lineup compared to the last generation. Namely that it'd be coming in closer to the GX580's price point and likely even above in. It'll need to be a monster card unlike the 5870/6970 before it. And then if the 7970 is at the $500~ level do we get 7950s which fit into the slot the 6970 used to fill? It'll be interesting either way.
Assuming rumor and leaks are true: you're paying for 4.5 billion transistors. That's pretty good value. Not to mention more physical memory chips etc.
