Can I buy one of these from anywhere and still get the cashback or does it have to be from somewhere that advertises it? What about (new) from an ebay shop?

You need to provide the invoice to claim the cashback so I highly doubt you could get it through ebay. I bought mine from ebuyer.

Was it not me with something like that a while back:

    http://forums.bit-tech.net/showpost.php?p=2800291&postcount=89

I am running a RAID 5 array using a RocketRAID 2680 RAID controller card (8 drive total capacity + 4+1 on the Microserver motherboard) and have a 5.25" to 1x 3.5" and 1x2.5" drive bay converter. I have seen the 5.25" to 4 x 2.5" bays out there if using the RocketRAID you could create an array over all 8 disks total capacity or split them up however you please. You will need a controller card that has a SFF-8087 mini SAS to reuse the quick swap bays.

Just a brief update now I've been living with the N40L for a month or so.

    It rocks.

My OS is the OpenMediaVault 64 bit Debian distro. Really simple to use, regular updates and support, seems ultra stable too. The available "plugins" (think apps) are great.
Media server is the MiniDLNA plugin for the above. It happily streams all my media to my LinnDS, WDTV Live, etc...
Print server is the CUPS plugin, so now the entire family can print via the server.
I'm toying with BitTorrent plugins and whatnot.

I've really enjoyed learning something new, too.

Just a bit of advice to anyone wanting to swap out the fan for something quieter. HP use a non standard pin out on the fan header so you will have to rewire your fan.

I ordered a new fan for my microserver under the impression I'd have to do this and was prepared to do so but when I tried my Noctua fan beforehand without configuring the wires it worked just fine, the 4th pin for altering the speed isn't connected but I'm using a resistor instead to slow the fan down to around 600rpm and it's been working fine ever since.

If you're prepared to live without the speed altering automatically it saves the trouble of rewiring.

It will be, I've got a mate working for HP at the moment and he looked into it for me. They're selling them like hot cakes because of the offer and aren't planning on stopping any time soon.

Awesome, Cheers for that, May end up picking up 2, although it looks like i may need to learn how to use another Server OS as i can no longer log into my college network and access my Windows Server keys.

Will have to ask HP about obtaining a copy of Windows, but i can get Windows Home Server 2011 for £35, so it's not the end of the world.

@MSHunter: Yes, it is. Without it SSD is limited to ~140MB/s. With hacked BIOS it goes full speed (SATA2 of course).
@samkiller42: sure, but "nearly free" WS2008R2 Foundation is a bit better option, no ?

You seem to have picked up an amazing bargain, Server 2008 for a Euro. My friend was trying to convince me that Linux is the way to go, but i know Windows Server, so i'm going to stick to what i know.

Page 9, I think this deserves to be bumped back up again.

So i plan on buying one at the end of the month, but i'm trying to decide if i should go for a 2TB drive, or a 3TB drive, The plan is to use the supplied 250GB HDD in the ODD port for the OS, my 2 current F3 1TB Drives, although i guess i can sell them and buy a 2nd 3TB drive, ahh, decisions decisions.
