Storage The HP Micro Server Thread

So i decided to install a USB 3.0 card, this is so i can use External HDD's as Backup drives and as extra storage.

My Next upgrade will be a RAM upgrade, but it's running very nicely, and i might change the fan over for something else.

Thought I would bump this rather than make a new thread (mods split if you want)

I just got one of these for use at home and want to know what Ram people are using in these, as I need to max it out at 8GB (well 4 minimum! im running low already )

And I am not doing this for a client so don't need the official hp stuff for once

 

Probably any 2x4gb kit will work, since you don't need ECC stuff and probably wouldn't see much benefit for the price since you don't need the stability.

I've just got this in mine. It works a treat and is cheap Also, it fits! (Which I was worried about after I ordered it!)

Sorry Faugusztin, but that stuff was a bit too expensive for this machine, its only a test rig atm running hyper-v servers

I used non ECC low profile kingston value ram in mine.

 

The RAM issue is quite simple, it has to be ECC NON-REGISTERED, ECC registered RAM does NOT work. Or just bog standard RAM works too. The Crucial memory tool will give you the correct Crucial sticks.

I got mine in April. Still not had cashback but I presume it's because so many people been buying them

 

what do you guys do for sound?

 

I use to use a nvidia G210 and output AV over HDMI to my TV when the microserver was my HTPC, however now its a headless server AV isn't needed anymore.

If sound is a requirement, a cheap USB audio module might be considered or something that uses a 1x PCI-E

 

When i used it, i had Creative X-Fi Go! Pro.

 

With mine I emailed them after about a week as it said to do that if I hadn't heard anything within a week of posting the claim form. I got the confirmation email back from them a few days after I emailed them - have you guys tried emailing them? Their address is promotions@out-bound.co.uk

For some reason my GT 520 refuses to output sound over HDMI.
Have only had some sucess with my Fiio E5, the Asus Xonar DG is just distortion hell.
Hope its just a driver issue, am searching for 3rd party solutions ATM.
