I was thinking this sort of idea would generate a lot of interest it would spread the financial burden of doing one of the great give-aways that you've been doing and I'm sure many bit-tech members have components one or two generations behind just sitting around at home. I will be upgrading my case and graphics card in the coming year and I won't get loads of money for selling them. They are both fairly old/budget components but I'm sure they would be better off with someone who can't afford a rig at all.
That's not a bad idea! We should do that next year since TGS already gave away a frakking computer.. lol
I've got a couple (u)ATX cases that are just collecting dust. I'd be willing to give them away to whoever needs them.
I'll start a thread in early autumn next year and see how much interest we can drum up I'm sure those serial upgraders among us will chip in!
Perhaps your "drumming up" thread could include the basis on which the "competition" thread will be run too. If I'm able to at the time, I'd happily contribute something to it but quite frankly not if it's run on the basis of "my life story's worse than yours" and I know I'm not alone in that opinion on here. Edit: and tbh what might be worth considering is a European competition and a US one, with people "donating" to their own continent competition. That'd avoid the large shipping costs and also the burden of import duties on the winners.
I'm going to ship and £800 gaming base unit (see my sig) to the next person who posts after me in this thread.
I have to agree with you on the competition aspect of it, but I honestly don't know how you would work out how best to get the rig to the right person. If this became a regular thing I could see people writing absolute ******** just to get their hands on the gear. I also think that if this were to happen it would have to be fairly local as you said or you would be spending more on postage than the component is worth. It may be that the idea has no legs and to be honest I'm far from being best placed to organise it as you can see from my post count I have not been an active member for long at all (although I do lurk and have done for a couple of years). I may have got ahead of myself
Your lack of faith disqualifies you... And you... And you... I take it you don't want the rig then Tel?
Well, since I've made your eyes roll upwards in your skull let me know where I should send it and I'll get it overnighted to your chosen location.
Wow for the first time ( in a long time ) I am lost for words.... no really I am........ Sent on my CM10 JB powered i9100 by TapaTalk 2
Dude, you do know I'm taking the piss don't you? I'd feel proper dreadful if you were taking me seriously I mean, I'd love to be in a position to donate large sums of money and/or computer parts to this fine community, but I have to make do with giving away the odd old component or game when find one in the garage. TL;DR: I had my fingers crossed
