Windows Windows 8.1

No more Windows Experience Index.... hurrah!! Not that it did any harm being there... its mere existence just annoyed me on a personal level.

 

W00T! Apparently there's more I must check out today then, I can't wait!

I think I might go and get the rest of my ITX build parts today, while it feels like a new OS and all.

 

MS is making media available, it is not available just right now. My own copy of retail 8.1 will arrive on monday.

 

Ahhh good to know, it did seem very odd that sites were reporting no availability of 8.1 ISO's

 

They're not offering the 8 -> 8.1 update as a standalone download [to my knowledge], that may be what they meant...

 

bah, my tablet wont let me use my wireless card after 8.1 update it can't find enough free resources, which seems odd as when I check system information, there are no conflicts and the resources are fine. tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling.

its an Intel pro/wireless 3945ABG card. it worked fine on 8, need to do more research me thinks or swap the card out.


edit: just looked on intels website and that card is NOT supported, so new card it is then, just seems daft that it works in 8 but not 8.1

Gone back to Windows 8 on my desktop now all my software I need wants to work properly with it. On 8.1 of course and so far I quite like it now.. it's weird I was indifferent with Metro before but after having 8 on my laptop since its launch I've got used to it really.

Starting to like Metro now xD as I like next to nothing on my desktop having them all on the metro area makes things less cluttered which is always a huge positive

 

I find that installing the drivers in compatibility mode can help.

 

It probably was my fault for not uninstalling the sound card drivers when I took it out.

PC settings gives me the new "Control Panel" I guess, but can't find any colour schemes in there?

 

What colour schemes do you mean? Of the Start Screen, or the Windows desktop?

Funny, it says that my wireless card for my 5 years old laptop is not supported, but it works perfectly on my system. In fact I didn't have to do anything. Intel is usually the Intel Wireless 5100 drivers, and all the features are there.

Another reason why I like it over the Start Menu. Glad you are giving it a chance.

Ah for this:
Go to the Start Screen. In the Start Screen, do Win + I, and click on Personalize
You need to be on the Start Screen. If you are on the desktop, it will open the Desktop Personalize window.

 

To follow, just been to Scan and picked up a 4670k and Gigabyte Z87- Wifi. I'm very excited for all the new power and boot features!

 

As GoodBytes says: go to the Start Screen, click the Settings Charm, choose Personalise. Et voila!

I installed it two days ago and still haven't noticed a damn difference
