Project: "G5 Retaliation" January 26. Assembly.
Well, here goes, my first real mod ever.
I've been cycling these threads for months now, and felt like I had to put in my 2 cents. ![]() First of all, English isn't my native language, so any minor spelling errors might be expected. ![]() The idea is a "normal" case, just looking as I wish it to, nothing over-the-top mod. Started out a couple of weeks ago, found a "Devil Inside" logo online, and altered it slightly in AcdSee to make it the "Angel Inside". Then I imported it into Solidworks, did a dot-to-dot on it, did a mirror on it, therefore it is on the inside of the case, and the front is smooth. The result: ![]() Installed in the old 2.4 Ghz, with 8 blue led's 4 from the top, 4 from the bottom: ![]() Then I just painted the front of a standard boring case, and replaced the side with a piece of aluminum, with the logo and a few led's in it. This is my setup as it was. Not a great picture of the case, but I guess you get the idea, and the logo will show up again later... ![]() I haven't bought a pc since 1999, as I just got them from work. The setup on the pc I started with on the pic, was a P4 3,0 Ghz, 1 gig of memory, 7900Gs gfx, and so on. But I'm a person who can't live without having 3-4 projects at a time, and got tired of the comp... Went online and bought a 2,13 Ghz core 2 duo, 2 gigs of memory, and a 7950GX2 gfx, and the project kinda got a life of itself! ![]() BTW, have you ever had a night that looked like this? *LOL* Setting up the new pc: "When you do things, do them in style" ![]() I removed everything from the boring case, installed the new components, and this is how it looked. Then I woke up this saturday morning WAAAAY too early, and couldn't sleep... Had to do something, so I went to work, painted the dvd drives, and made a new front for the case. Later that day, got bored again, and started thinking... Which apparently resultet in me waking up waaaay to early AGAIN, and I went to the workshop again... And this is where I'm at now with this project. One problem is that the sleeving for the (Oh yeah, had to buy a new PSU, the old 420W wasn't supplying the power that the 7950GX2 needs... And then I bought one that could run a Quad-setup of 2 7950Gx2's... Might get bored again! )Well... The sleeving I bought was supposed to glow under uv-light, but NO... It don't... So I'm having a discussion on email with the supplier... Dunno how it's gonna end up, but I guess I'll find out. The idea is that this thing is going to be watercooled, and I really wanna make the parts myself. Waterblocks and reservoir that is. I've seen quite a bit of pics, from ppl who made those themselves, and... Most of them didn't impress me. (don't get me wrong, I was impressed of the result they got from the tools they had to create them!) But since I work with cnc-machines, I have the means to do it a little better ofcourse! Made these scetches i Solidworks, for the Chipset and the Cpu.![]() ![]() I am aware that the "X2O" logo exists, but this is my version of it! ![]() And the blue colour in the letters will light up under UV light. Made a chipsetblock, just for the heck of it yesterday. The only reason it's made from aluminum is that it's much faster to work with, than copper. BTW, I made it on a manual mill, not a cnc. ![]() That's it for now! Any ideas/designs/scetches will be appreciated. Last edited by Angel OD; 26th Jan 2009 at 16:45. |

Could you guys please post the pics with image tags so that they appear here in this window and we don't have to individually open each pic.

I'll take a couple of pics at work tomorrow!
But the cnc is a benchtop mill... I really wish it would have been larger, but our workshop is placed on the 2. floor, so the amount of weight we can put on the floor is limited! (damn I miss my DMU 80T *DREWL*) The manual is a FP1, we have 3 of those, and they are a dream to work with! We bought a new one last year.... 40.000 Euro!!! you can buy a no-name cnc at that price!!! Dude... The GPU... I thought about it, but it's gonna be hell to do all the measuring... google the 7950GX2, and you will understand! But IF i do it, I will make 2 of them, just in case I go quad on the gfx!

radodrill>> thx for the heads up!
![]() identikit> Inside will be tidied up... ( the hdd is on a bed of cigarettepacks! *LOL*) So don't worry! But when you cut away everything underneath the dvd's, where the hdd's normally sit, you have to put it on something though!

I noticed the (full) ashtrays in most of the pics; you must be a pretty heavy smoker.

Good start, the case is a clean style as is, you just need the touchups done to the sleeving and maybe painting the innards.
Dont get me wrong, sometimes less is more. ![]() Now about that CNC, what do you on a everyday basis? Kolding based myself, so if i'd pay the right price (black market :P) maybe you could make some stuff for me?

radodrill>> Guilty as charged. I go through 30-40 a day, more on weekends...
Spaceraver>> I'm a machinist, and I make a lot of stuff for myself and friends/family. But blocks like these are timeconsuming... The money they would cost to make (thinking about the hours) is so crazy, that I would never do it for anyone but myself... But if you have any drawings or plans for something, throw them my way, and I will take a look at them! Always looking for something fun and challenging to do Even if I don't really make any "real" money from it! ![]() Btw, forgot to take pics of the machines at work today, but I might stay late at work tomorrow, and create a bracket for my harddrive, and ofcourse do some pics! :-) Oh, spoke with a guy from where I bought the sleeving today, and he's gonna send me 6-9 feet of AC Ryan Uv-sensitive sleeving, at no charge!

I think the channel design in the first waterblock render is awesome! I'm hurt that you did a simple S in the actual block. You have all that machineshop power and you don't use it to the extreme?

Cheapskate:>> The aluminum block was just a "for the heck of it" thing I did... Had to try something for fun, and made it on a manual machine, and btw I made it during workhours... That's gotta count for something! LOL... Sometimes we have the time to play around, and then why not do something like that? But I hope to be sober enough sunday morning to drive to work and get on with some of the designs! :-) GOD knows I'm not gonna drive now.. LOL

And here goes...
I know I'm a little slow at this mod, but well... I have my In-Car computer to work on also, and 15643 other projects! :-) Made one of the waterblocks for this mod today, the one for the chipset, And I'm hoping to find time for the Cpu-block on monday. Maybe I'll even go to the workshop sunday, if saturday night doesn't go out of hand! *LOL* Made some design changes to the blocks... Before: And After: So this is where I'm at right now... Oh yeah, also got the pump and the coolers for the memory though! :-) BUT... The twist is... Our photographer at work, got a Mac G5, or let's just say he had... The factory watercooling on it broke, and the mac is dead... Therefore I am now the proud owner of a G5 case... I guess you know where this is going? ;-) Love the case, and have a couple of ideas on how to treat it, so therefore this thread will be discontinued, when I get around to build my pc into the G5... To all mac owners, I'm sorry, but I'll do it justice! :-) |

Daniel114<-- Well... haven't we all been there? *LOL*
Nope, it's a Z-board... look it up online, it's pretty cool, you can take the keys out and replace them with a "standard" keyset... It's the gaming keyset that's in it in the picture! :-) widmod<-- Txh a lot! :-) Hope they will look crazy when done! :-) It will still have the same theme as a G5... Angel inside, not Mac inside! ;-) |
