@ Devilhacker -I bought my uv red plexi from Delvie's Plastics in the US. The 2" tube is from Tap Plastics in the US.
You might have better luck elsewhere. The EU has many plastics makers, and shipping from the US would hurt.

 

Cheapskate, I really like this case. Man, you are putting so much hard work into this. I really envy your amazing work with the plexi! Congrats man!

I don't consider it work if I'm inside with the AC. I'ts much easier than, say, fixing broken attic rafters in summer.

 

-I popped the tray on my new dvd drive and found this ugly biege thing. I needed to pull the face off for front panel fitting...

-Added some spacers so I could get in where the drive touches the front.

-Cut the face hole out. The floppy slit and button holes will come later. I got sidetracked with the waterblock.

-I finally pulled my heatsink. It's actually an P4, not an amd. -Shows how much attention I was paying...
Now I have some measurements I hope will work.

-Trimming up the top of the block.

-The rough cut.

-I cut the copper block out with a hacksaw, then milled the edges clean.

-The results of an attempt to lapp the copper. The surface was very uneven and will need more work.

-Drilling the mounting holes in the block. I used water in the hole to keep the bit cool. This helps keep the inside of the hole from clouding. I dropped screws in each finished hole again to prevent my guide from slipping.

-My camera batteries died, so I suddenly have this. Friggen sweet!

-The mostly finished block. Now I need some seriously long 6-32 screws and some springs. I also need to polish the guts up so I have even more internal mirror effects.


I only hope it fits...

 

That is a SWEET looking block. I think I'm gonna have to blatently steal that idea for one of mine one day. Well, make one kinda like that anyway. Did you flame polish that? If so, I gotta start playing with that technique. If not, how did you get it so clear?

 

Wow, brother...this case is coming along quite nice! That block is crazy too. Those fittings look like Alphacools or something, only copper.

@ Dacust -Thanks! You might want to wait until I test it, but feel free to 'steal' my idea. I worked out the pattern in Illustrator, blocking out a 1/4" cut with 1/8" space.
I used sandpaper and a buffing wheel to polish up the sides. The rest is still unpolished. I think it looks so clear because it's really freaking thick.
@ E.E.L. -Thank you! The rush from making something like this is why I mod. The fittings are hardware store standard. I just polished the hell out of them.

 

Thanks! I'll definitely catch your test results since I'm keeping an eye on this mod anyway.

If I use the idea, I won't just copy it totally. At the least I'll use a different pattern. But I am loving the thick plexi with the step in it that you have. And how it was used on the tikiquarium. I keep thinking about the possibilities of doing more 3D work with plexi. Very thick and rounding the edges, but not evenly. Kinda like the Blackout letters TribalOVERKILL did but more so. I have no use for flames, but 3D flames out of thick plexi would look great. But I am rambling... I'll shut up and go back to sleep.

@ Dacust- I hear ya man! -rounding and polishing makes it look like CANDY. One of the deco concepts I had for this case was to cut the plexi so it looked like flint. I thought I might be able to get that shape with a sand blaster. Doing flames has crossed my mind too, but I wanted to heat sculpt it into a fireball.

@ Teyber- Thanks dude, but I'm thinking Delta faucet parts might be faster. I plan to use the lawnmower pump to test it.

That's a very cool looking block but I can't imagine what sort of restriction it imposes on the flow.

 

Not enough to worry about. I was hoping for a lot of turbulence over a large surface. The tiny holes in the connections should be my biggest restriction.

OK... Polishing tight spaces:

-My favorite pre-polish technique. Comet powder, the little plastic dremel brush, and lots of water.

-No pics, but I finished up the polish by hand. I used a scrap of felt... gooed up with dremel polishing compound...on a stick. Cleanup involved q-tips and rubbing alcohol.

dude im a little worried about leaks though, im sure you arleady said it, but doesn't it need a 0 ring? w/e, you can add that later, just leak test please!

@Teyber- I'm planning on a sloppy helping of silicone around the edge, (so the whole maze thing will be about 1/32" off the copper surface.) I did a lot of aquarium mod and engine work before I learned plumbing, and I've done a LOT of plumbing. I'm pretty confident I can leakproof my loop.
All I remember of that language is... Well... I can't say that kind of stuff here.

I did the whole thing on a drill press, it shows it too. The edges are wobbly and it even did that chatter thing in a few places.
