Renowned as one of the best Power Supply manufacturers on the planet, PC Power & Cooling (or PCPC) sent us some 750W CrossFire and SLI models to test and confirm if they really do deserve this status.

I bought one of their 750w Ultra-Quiet Quad Silence jobbies a while back.

Considering what they used to cost... the price drops have been quite dramatic since their merger with/buy out by (I can't remember which it is?) OCZ
My 750w model cost me 'just' £99 + VAT. That's about 50% less than that same PSU would've cost me just a few months back

 

As always, PCP&C has another great unit to add to their lineup of great units. I have one of their Turbocool 510 SLI units. Loud as hell compared to others, but stable as a rock.

 

A comparison between their 'connected at the source' psu's and an equivalent power rating psu from enermax or tagan would be a comparison that might justify or dismiss their claims more effectively, who knows?

Otherwise a nice looking pair of psu's that do the job.

You know PCP&C were rercently aquired by OCZ, so expect future PSUs combining aesthetics, ergonomics and stunning performance. So don't all rush out and buy a PCP&C just yet.

 

I may have to disagree with the author in regards to his dislike of a non-modular design. These are 750W power supplies potentially running huge amounts of current through those wires. Having another connector will add resistance to those wires (especially if they use a crimp connection).

( huge current) * (any added resistance) = voltage drop = bad

True, but then jack up the voltage, no? OCZ have previously made PSUs with POTs you can tune yourself so it's not impossible. Plus, a hotter case from poorer airflow is just as bad as poor voltages. It's all swings and round abouts - what stops the connection to the mobo/hard drive/graphics not to be fantastic either?

PCP&C have always argued against the modular thing. Personally, I prefer modular. I understand both sides of the argument regardless. Hell, to come to middleground I purchased a PCP&C unit made modular by Performance-PCs and warranty is still valid due to them being authorized by PCP&C to work on their units.

 

I have the Enermax Infinity 750W. I cant recommend it enough! 10/10

 

Well the email we got from them was very positive - they understood a "modders" position even though they are staunch performance engineers, so considering PCPC own OCZ now I wouldn't be surprised if we got PCPC inside modxstream PSUs.. perhaps.

Hm, as far as i can remember, topnurse used a PCPC psu in her Feeding Frenzy build ( where is she anyway?) and she clipped some of the wires, ie. opened and removed some connectors inside her psu... she even RMA'ed it after and they took it back, noted the state and said... "yep, that is our psu and it slipped through QC where it should have failed, we'll replace it, no charge" Don't hang me on the statement, but that was what i understood by her posts after.
