So actually the RRoD only hit 102 out of 1040, which is 9.8% ish. To be honest, that's lower than I expected, less than one in ten. I thought it'd be up more like one in eight or one in seven.

Bauul: As stated in the article, they don't count those broken consoles returned directly to Microsoft, which is what most people do I suppose (at least those people I know). So the failure rate is probably higher than 16%.

damn that a lower failure rate than i would expect, microsoft have been working hard.

it took me 4 attempts to find a ps3 that would actual play a blu-ray disc..... still waiting for this one to die

i'd like to see what percentage of failed consoles are the older types or the newer versions with a different mobo + HDMI...

I've got the latter and it seems to put out less heat playing games than my 2900XT does on it's own, can't see my one RRoDing anytime soon :p

and appropriate cooling would have most likely prevented like 90% of those failures....

is it that difficult to create an efficient cooling system with today's technology?

Putting out less heat could actually be a bad thing depending on how much heat is being produced internally. The more heat it puts expels out of the system the less that is trapped inside. This is the problem with the 360, it does not expel heat well at all so a lot of it stays trapped internally. My 360 has RRoD'd once but I haven't had problems since then, but it never put out a lot of heat as compared with my ps3 that heats up my room in like 5 minutes.

A 1 in 10 failure rate is horrendous, that sort of failure rate could put a small to medium company out of business.

1 in 10 is definitely awful, the whole RRoD thing is probably whats stopped me buying a 360 in the past, and there's no need these days as the PS3 is more appealing (at least to me)

I wonder how much this whole ordeal has cost MS ....

I've owned 2 360s. My first one I got the summer of 2006, it's a 1st gen box. It's still working pretty good, only a few quarks.

I gave that one to my girlfriend since she didn't have a 360 and because I wanted the new Halo 3 360.

The only problems with my 1st one is disk read errors and it scratched her Halo 3 disk. x_x
