PRICES "Intel has launched seven new 45nm processors today, including the Q9650, which will head-up its quad core range (not including the extreme series). It has been introduced at the same price point at the previous top quad core. The Q9550 used to cost $530 but has seen that price axed by 40 percent to $316. The $530 Q9650 appears to be the first mainstream quad core CPU to clock at 3.0 GHz, with the Q9550 clocking at 2.83 GHz. The price compares favourably to the QX9650, which has identical clock speed, L2 cache and FSB figures, but costs $999. An analogous launch and price drop has happened in the Xeon server CPU range, with the 3 GHz X3370 coming in at $530 and the X3360 dropping by 40 percent from $530 to $316. You have to be kidding me... 1- you will never see the Extreme in stores, so the people that buy's these models doesn't need a color coding scheme to know it's high-end of now. 2- i7? OH COME ON! why i, and why 7! It's like if they try to confuse ignorant people that Intel Core 3,4,5,6 already passed, and that is version7. OR/AND that their is 7 cores in the computer. 3- Intel Core i7 Octo Extreme Edition HT technology [M for mobile computer] 2 QX6253 (just wait it will be like this), as mentioned by wuyanxu, is way to long and hard to type.

And I thought Phenom was bad. To me all the i7 chips are going to be simply known as "Those new Intel ones" and that's still easier to type. (Hey, I could even shorten it to TNIO or TNIC and it's still make more sense)
I'm hoping this rumor is false and that they change the name before release. Something along the lines of Intel Core-HT Quad and Intel Core-HT Octo would make much better product names then i7 in my opinion.
Also, what I don't get is what is up with "i"...."interactive 7" is BAD! and makes no sense. Also it makes it sound like an Apple product. Hmmm, unless it's the names for Apple computer CPU's even thus in reality it's the same as the one (with a different name) as the one on the PC. But that is just plain dumb.
Screw i7, it's called Nehalem :*( I can see it now... "Apple is proud to present the iMac, with bundled iPower software, iPod, iPhone, iThis, iThat, iTune, powered by the new i7! ... aiiiiiiiiie!" Seriously Intel, I hope this is some kind of "April Fools 2009 Early Planning Stages" thing.
When it goes on sale, it will be interesting to see if on-line retailers list it as i7 or as Nehalem.

Are nehalem going to be quad accross the range? If so, Core4 would be a good name imo - core4 as there's 4 cores...
At work, we end up calling things by their code names. With friend outside of work, I'll start referring to things by codename and end up loosing them quick
WOW! The pricing is VERY reasonable for these processors!! I think I might get the new Q9650 or Q9550 (check the first post for prices)
OH NOES! I just ordered my Q9450 for 300€! Any estimates on how long until these price drops affect the price an end-user pays for them?
