News New Steam UI launched

I personally find it horrible. The default black one was hundred times better. Not only that, but they DON'T give you an option to change back to the old one... Ashame, I loved that UI.
Ah. The new browser doesn't seem to like google reader either, because the "popups" (when you want to read the whole story) just doesn't work in there.

 

I hated the beta, but I will give the "retail" version a fair go before I rage make fair and thoughtful comments.

 

Personally I love the new look and have been using it for over a month. Steam really needed to change to the UI and it was getting really old looking

 

I have to say I'm not a big fan either.

Is there a way to relocate the entire Steam folder to a different drive (or at least the games that are downloaded?)

I've mistakenly installed Steam on my C: drive, and now it installs every game on C: without asking, which I dont want.

Deus Ex and Psychonauts on Netbook, Buahaha! Who sait the Atom is too slow?

 

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I love the new UI. I think it's a very natural progression from the old one and brings steam right up to date. It makes several much needed changes to key functions as well as introducing some new features which were not necessarily needed but that I certainly welcome and enjoy using. Apart from all the functional changes that have been made, it looks much better in Windows 7 and will look good on OSX when that gets off the ground. The old steam was an application designed to run on an old OS, the new steam is designed to run on newer OS'. Like I said, a natural progression.

 

And still no download scheduler.

Don't care about the rest, just the lack of a scheduler.

I wasn't a huge fan of the new UI at first when I used it in the beta, but it grew on me. The overlay has a much better web browser at least. Handy for when I get stuck in game.

 

Still no native proxy support :/

 

To relocate Steam, just move the folder to where you want it; if it's not happy, delete "ClientRegistry.blob" and log back in. Simplez.

yes steam only installs stuff under the Steam\SteamApps folder which is a bit stupid. It could have had an option for selecting where you want a game downloaded. But I guess they want to keep it simple and avoid support nightmares with customers wondering where their games went and other complexities.
You can fix it yourself if you get to know symlinks which are available on Windows 7.

 

I have a copy of the Steam folder on one of my data drives.
i just copied a shortcut to the steam.exe file on my desktop.
When I run it it seems to be able to function.

Whenever I reinstall windows I just recopy the shortcut and run it....

 

Any one else have issues with the steam beta on Linux? It was unbearably slow for me.

 

never bothered with the beta as at the start it had problems like re-downloading games.

Remove the 'a' please.

The first 'to' should be 'too'. Strange as you use 'too' correctly in your next sentence! A quick re-read before posting the news article is all you need.

I've just been having a tinker with it on the netbook and it looks rather nice, not too cluttered on the small screen. This, of course, means that I'll probably hate it on the desktop when I get home as it's too small!

The option to change the jumplist for Win 7 is nice although I expect I'll just switch everything on and leave it at that.

 

All the hating is nothing new to any new UI. When company wants to change their UI, they just have to do it and ignore the haters and eventually people will get used to it and like it better. (facebookl
