I thought this was going to be about Mankz, given all the respawn jokes in his "away" thread :p

Lots of bitterness, I sense... :p

This is one of the biggest ****-ups in gaming history but seriously, you could see that happen during beta already.

    Wow.

That was quite a powerful article. Really well written.

    Well done Phil!

    Yeah, but Mankz did respawn.

    On topic:

APB was pisspoor in terms of execution. Anyone who claims anything to the contrary is simply wrong. RTW did nothing to allay any issues that the users had, and those issues were well known enough to kill new interest in the game.

They shut themselves down with shoddy support and shoddy bug fixing.

    Personally, I'm glad they're gone.

Nice writeup. Felt the sadness and loss. Or should that be emptiness? Just focus on all that free time you now have ;)

It is harsh to plough so many hours into something, and feel empty. Only recent comparison comes to mind is when I hit level 80 in Conan the other month. I wanted Conan to shower me in recognition for the determination and hard work (read: grind) I had put in. I wanted fireworks as I rode my horse from his kingdom, back to the wilderness. I wanted town/city guards to wave and acknowledge me ...

    Nothing.

Games are limitless in their imagination, but limited to how they have been built and designed. There could have been the mechanics in place for me to see the waving guards, the curtsying of the peasant wenches as I rode past, Conan could have given me that. Just like you could have had fireworks and collapsing buildings in APB at the end, instead of ...

    Nothing.

    Brilliant article, definitely powerful :)

    And a nice ending ;)

"APB had the most potential of any MMO seen in years,” sympathised Rezistance’s clan leader, Revenant. “Unfortunately, s*** happens."

    :duh: :D

I'm surprised they weren't able to sell some sections of this game off, for example all the bits added for customising.

Wasn't there still a 130k player base spending around £/$20-30 a month average. I'm surprised no one noticed this, possibly could have eventually got their money back.

Pity it failed though, it had alot of potential in my eyes.

I see a lot of people saying the game had a lot of potential (usually reviews). That's not really saying much though is it. That's like saying Labour had a lot of potential. You know, before they took us to a war we didn't want, and then helped get the country into piles of debt. It's all about the execution. APB failed at that and the game died. Hardly a great loss.

It was obvious from the beta that APB was going no where. I didn't expect it to get closed down so soon in all fairness, nor for RTW to go in to administration, but they definitely had no hope relying on APB.

    And Crackdown 2. My God.
