    I've been back with my parents following some surgery and they had almost exactly this problem.

    Speeds were coming out (on speedtest and BTs test website) at around 2.4/0.9. The first 2 times I phoned them to request a MAC code they assured me they had found a technical problem with the line, that they would fix it and that they would phone me back.

    I monitored the problem closely and I observed no discernible change in speed.

    I phoned the tech support line a third time. This time the operator informed me that it appeared that the technical problems with the line had been recorded but no action taken......

    This time the line appears to be fixed running at around 10.0/1.0 but Im going to get my folks to move to Virgin as it looks like this shoddy speed has been going on for some time.

    F-ck BT tbh.

    Edit: forgot to say - you need to kick up a fuss about the configured speed. I guess that it is too low and the line needs to be reset. Phone them up, request a MAC code, express your displeasure, and then let them attempt a fix. Meanwhile google providers in your area. BT suck.

    I have a flatmate with more money than sense who kept upgrading our connection (and paying for it all) because his games didn't run well. Then I fixed his WiFi. I'm not sure if facepalm or celebration is in order.
