Hello All, im after a new graphics card and Hard drive. i currently have an old graphics card and hard drive which i dont know what they are as they are about 5 years old. the motherboard i have is an Asus p5k64 ws any help would be great or any questions just ask. Thanks
Which CPU do you have and which resolution are you playing at? Also what's your budget for the upgrade? You could either get a standard HD like the Samsung F3 or an SSD like the Vertex 2E (scroll down to the OCZ section of the Today Only deals.) edit: Also if you only have 2GB of RAM then a memory upgrade could also be a cheap and effective upgrade.
haha sorry my budget is about £200 for both i dont play games but usually its whatever i find best for me and the monitor.
What's the resolution of your monitor? For £200, I would be looking at a Radeon HD5850 and a Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD (the Barra is the fastest HDD out there atm! All underlined things are clickable
What's your current GFX not doing ATM? If you need a new one for occasional gameplay a 786mb 460GTX will be loads. But more importantly you can get a 64GB SSD and keep your existing HDD for storage.
right you should probably know more about my comp...... motherboard: Asus p5k64 ws graphics card (found box): NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT @ 1680 x 1050 ram: 4GB CPU: intel core 2 duo e6750 @2.66 ghz HDD 160GB (on its last legs) OS: windows 7 what i want to do..... to be able to watch videos and dvds. the only game i have for my pc is FM 2011 and i use an Xbox for the rest.
was looking at SSD and keeping mine for storage but as it could be on its way out atm i dont really want to chance keeping as storage internally.... i do have an external HDD i use for storage/backup atm.
The above rig should be fine for watching videos. Storage wise it would probably be the Samsung F3 1tb. If you want more GFX power a 786 460GTX will fit the bill perfectally at around 110 pounds from scan.co.uk
yeah it is but both the graphics and HDD are starting to go.... i forgot to put that in my OP. thanks for the help will look into them.
For video playback/football manager a £50 GPU will be fine. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-120-HT&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673 Then a £40 1tb hard drive, there all pretty much identical, just avoid eco/5400rpm ones.
You probably want to be careful with your choice of graphics card, although you don't need a particularly high spec card for watching videos, you will want one with a 6 pin PCIE connection (or an older card) as the more modern cards which just take power from the motherboard are designed for PCIE 2.0 motherboards (which provide more power to the PCIE slot.) Something like this would probably be okay: http://www.ksn-online.co.uk/components-video-cards-peak-512mb-radeon-4850-pci-hdmi-p-8122.html
I read the post above as Formula one 2011. Check (Wait for it) There are some cracking deals on 8800Gt's. There are going for around sub 40 pounds. Pair that along with a F3 1tb and maybe an SSD and you are sorted. Also look at something like a 5670.

Oh right, when you said 'cracking deals' I thought you meant from etailers Yeah I know the price on ebay for them has been under £40 for the last year...
