I'd like to point out (for my reputations sake) that those fans were in a plastic bag when I put them through Tom's letterbox, I didn't drop them in like shown. :D

I don't think you original aim of £100 and achievable by anyone is fulfilled. You've paid fairly low prices or no P&P on many of these item thanks to bit tech.

To address this, in actual fact, as people will tell you, I've had many, many people offer me things for below the asking price/free, and in every case, I've refused, and payed the going ebay rate.

Yeah right. Now we know what kind of seller you are :D

Wrong. Bit-tech is not the only place to buy stuff mate. Its just more convenient than Ebay, and with a bit more trust.

Parge you've done well here. +rep, and glad the backplate made it! :thumb:

    - Many thanks matey, your girlfriend must be a lucky lady, he heard my cries for help about blanking plates and included two - are they from the M59 - I recognise those from when I had that case! Not only that but the 2Gb of RAM, a Soundblaster, a fan and some TIM! Amazing! Thank you very much! +rep!

    ....and

    - thats a Freezer 7 Pro and a E6300 in in that cute little bubble wrapped package. All thanks to Meandmymouth!

    ....and

    2GB of Kingston HyperX

This won't actually be included in the build at the present time, since it forces me over budget! But, after I'm done I'll slot it right in and bring the RAM up the 3GB. Thank you to AngelOD! What a guy! (PM on the way mate)

    So on with the build.

    First up. Cleaning.

The case and PSU cleaning took about 2 hours.... though I was also watching Sharpe at the same time which kept distracting me

Ripped out the PSU and took it apart....

    P1000667 by Penderyn, on Flickr

The fans were caked in dust. Nothing a bit of tissue and a hoover couldn't solve.

    P1000668 by Penderyn, on Flickr

    Clean as a whistle...

And while I'm ripping out stuff....

Case fans: Out with the old, and in with the new. Many thanks to Fingers66!

Had a little incident with one of the pins that holds the front panel on. Ermm, super glue time!

I'd forgotten how much I hate IDE cables

But here's the initial build, before I've done cabling etc, just to test everything's working.

Now: Just installed and activated Vista Business, installing steam, MSE and VLC. Next up: put the rest of the case back together.

Tomorrow: I suppose you're all wondering where the GPU is? Well, it got delivered, but we were out, so my housemate is picking it up for me in the morning!

    More updates then!

    Awesome. Good going.

One thing i forgot to tell you. The g31 chipsets tend to run quite warm. I never thought much of it, but a few people put a 40mm fan on that orange sink.

If you need a 40mm or 60mm fan for the chipset heatsink, let me know. I think I have some somewhere.

This is a great idea! The motherboards not too bad, it's the one I use on my HTPC. I can't say that I have noticed the chipset get hot when I've used this to game (BFBC2 and L4D2). If anything the passivly cooled 5450 I had was the hottest thing in the case.

I’ve actually got a spare brand new 40mm fan that I accidently ordered instead of a 60mm fan, hanging around – the only problem being – how to attach the thing. Any ideas?

Just screw it onto the gold coloured heatsink, the threads of a self tapping screw will fit between the fins and lodge it securely. I do question the need for it just yet though.

Leave it off until you have tested the rig when overclocked to see if the voltage increase on the CPU affects the NB temps. Use something like HWMonitor to see what the temps are.

If you want to get fancy, you could buy one of these: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/nort...ve-chipset-cooler-for-any-all-intel-amd-mobos.

Yeah, I'll give it a try without first for sure. Might have to put 1.4V through that E6300 to hit 3Ghz though.

If you do put the fan on the oragne heatsink, throw up a photo or 2. I have the same mobo but I have a e5300 running at 3.4. Only with the multiplier and have some crucial ballistix upped to 1066. Haven't messed with voltage for CPU and timings for RAM as of yet. I Don't seem to have any heat problems. But as the system gets older it may be an option.

Huge thumbs up on this, i read the whole thread on my phone last night. Just got back from work and thought i would register to say well done :D
