Parge - I am downloading Shattered Horizon (had it on Steam for ages) right this minute, so I shall tell you what the singleplayer is like in 20 minutes or so.

Edit: the singleplayer is just the ability to have bots instead of people, but the Last Stand mode is new (4 people vs progressive waves of bots).

Double edit: OK, the bots aren't the brightest, and singeplayer is certainly easier than multiplayer due to that, but they can put up some stiff resistance. Me and 3 bots held out for 10 minutes 31 seconds on Normal. Also, Last Stand is excellent IMO.

I'd say SH is worth £7.49 because it's unique.

Oooh ok mate! I've read the MP is very unforgiving because everyone else in playing the game is so good, what do you think?

I completed it back in the day, wonder if the revamped new one is worth buying?

I need to work through all the ones after Black edition! I bought the new one the other day - it was on offer for a fiver IIRC.

I've never played Painkiller, what's it like? Half-Life 2 or more like Serious Sam?

Oh and Parge, the MP is very unforgiving, that's why they've added the singleplayer (according to the trailer). You get used to the 3D nature of the game pretty quick though I think. I haven't played in a year or so and downloaded it again this afternoon, got back into it properly in about 15 minutes.

Painkiller isn't too bad, bit dated now. Was quite a popular professional gaming title at one stage.

I hated painkiller because it replaced UT2k4 in professional competitions. The only reason it replaced it was marketing because there was no real competition for this game. Nobody cared, they just tried to make it popular by making pro gamers play it.

The Witcher EE is £3.65 (+ another 15% code) at direct2drive today. I'm tempted but I'm not sure if it will run on Win7 64bit. Anyone know for definite?

don't buy it on D2D. If you look at the bottom of the game page you'll see all the issues with the D2D version. I have x64 and it runs well (steam version btw)

Also, AVP for $5 on steam.

Can anyone tell me if the MP is dead or if there are dedis?

Thanks for the advice mate. I was just about to go for it when I saw your post!

Now all I have to do is hope I catch it when (if?) it goes 75% off on steam.

Seems alright to me, haven't looked into it at length though. $5 weekend can't hurt the MP stats either, pretty sure there'll be a massive pile of folks playing.

ok thanks. when i tried the SP on a friend's PS3 i found it incredibly generic for all three races. The marine campaign was the best and that doesn't say much.

The marine campaign needs to be played in the dark, alone, as with the other AvP's.

The other two campaigns are alright, but they could be better in a few ways. On PC the Predator controls in particular suffer imo - it's set up to be used on a twin-trigger joypad.
