This is just a thread wondering if these parts fit/work well and do the best they can within my £700 strict budget. CPU Intel Core i5 2500, Socket 1155, Sandy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.3GHz, GPU 850Mhz, 6MB Cache, 95W, Retail MOBO Gigabyte GA-H67MA-UD2H-B3, Intel H67, S1155, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 1333, SATA 6Gb/s, RAID, mATX, VGA RAM 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 Classic, DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.50V HDD 1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9ms, NCQ Optical Drive Sony AD-5260S-0B 24x DVD±R, 12xDVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RWx6 SATA, Black, OEM Case Antec 100 One Hundred, Black Midi Tower Gaming Case w/o PSU PSU 530W Be Quiet BN106 Pure Power L7, 80 PLUS, SLI/CrossFire, 120mm Fan, Dual Rail, ATX12V v2.3 GPU 1GB XFX HD 5870, PCI-E 2.1 (x16), 4800MHz GDDR5, GPU 850MHz, 1600 Cores, DP, HDMI, 2 x DL DVI-I NOTE:I still need to find a suitable monitor, around 20"-22" costing around £120, nothing ridiculous like 140 or 150. All suggestions welcome. This computer will primarily be a gaming computer if that helps. What I also saw is that on a website, the fps between the i5 2400 and the i5 2500 were minimal, only 3 or 4fps at max and the i5 2400 costs 15 quid cheaper. Would I be stupid to get the i5 2500 instead of saving 15 quid and only losing a couple of fps? All comments on other parts in this system are welcome. If you recommend something better, please make sure it will be a suitable price. Thanks. Thanks for all comments.
I would change the motherboard and CPU to this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/inte...uadcore-33ghz-gpu-850mhz-6mb-cache-95w-retail and http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...-e-20-x16-ddr3-2133-2200-sata-6gb-s-raid-matx Everything else is solid. For a monitor something the the Ben-Q should do the job http://www.scan.co.uk/products/215-...led-monitor-1920x1080-5ms-250cd-m-10001-black or http://www.scan.co.uk/products/215-benq-e2220hd-black-widescreen-5ms-1920x1080-10001-300cd-m
Agree with above. Change the CPU from 2500 to 2500K, and motherboard with H67 to P67 Rev3. No reason at all to go H67 since you got a dedicated graphic card. As for the XFX 5870, there's been reports of its custom cooler making an annoying whine (not loud fan noise). If you look around, you can find 6950 1GB and GTX560 Ti that are faster than 5870 out of the box and has much more overclocking headroom for around £165-£180, and with free games as well. This following for example: 6950 1GB http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=56&subid=1752&sortby=priceAsc GTX560 Ti: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=1914&subid=1341&sortby=priceAsc For optical-drive I would suggest going LG rather than Sony, as there's been many cases of compatability issue with Sony's drives in the pass.
+1 to what murraynt said Cheap 1080p monitor: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/215-...creen-monitor-5ms-1920x1080-120000001-250cd-m
Why should I get the 2500k? I do not plan on overclocking. Too risky IMO on a first and new rig. Thanks for all the comments, will change the mobo and the optical drive. I always love free things, only thing is I don't like the price. However since it is faster yes I will check it out. Thanks for all feedback. In relation to my question with the CPU, since I won't be overclocking, isn't the i5 2400 better value for money compared to the i5 2500?
+1 for the changes murraynt said, as others have said, no point going with a h67, with on board graphics when your using a dedicated graphics card, with a 2500k and p67 board your computer will fly
There is a switch on the Asus board that will overclock its self to about 4.5 ghz. Even if you go into the bios its only a matter of typing in 43 to get a 4.3GHZ overclock. It's pretty much fool proof and for only the price of a bag of chips. Now getting above 4.6 will require more voltage and to hit 5 will need more tinkering. A 2500K can Turbo boost further as well AFIK
you could add a coolermaster 212 hyper + if you wish for 15 pounds but you should still be able to get some extra speed with the stock cooler.
I'll just do a quick tally up of how much that will cost me paying for a 2500k and the cooler bundled with the monitor and the gpu. Thanks a lot for all your comments and help.
2500k is only £2 more at scan! than the 2500 http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/cpus-intel/intel-core-i5-socket-1155 while the board murraynt recommend is also only £2 more
Haha oh ye. Would be stupid to miss something like that. This is my 'new and improved' list of parts. CPU Intel Core i5 2500K Unlocked, 1155, Sdy Bridge, QuadCore, 3.3GHz, GPU 850Mhz, 6MB Cache, 95W, Retail MOBO Asus P8P67-M Rev3, Intel P67 Express, S1155, PCI-E, 2.0 x16, DDR3 2133 / 2200, SATA 6Gb/s, RAID MATX RAM 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 Classic, DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.50V HDD 1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9ms, NCQ Optical Drive LG GH22NS50 22x DVD±R, 16xDVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RWx6 ,12xRAM SATA, Black, OEM Case Antec 100 One Hundred, Black Midi Tower Gaming Case w/o PSU PSU 530W Be Quiet BN106 Pure Power L7, 80 PLUS, SLI/CrossFire, 120mm Fan, Dual Rail, ATX12V v2.3 Cooler Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus, 4 Heat Pipes, with 120mm Quiet Fan LGA775/1155/1156/1366/AM2/AM2+/AM3 Monitor 21.5" BenQ E2220HD, Black, Widescreen, 5ms, 1920x1080, 1000:1, 300cd/m² GPU ATI Radeon 6950 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE Games Pack As much as this is a nice looking computer, it costs in total £750. The main money sinks are the overclocking path for the CPU and the gpu with the 3 games. To save money, would it be alright to not buy the cpu cooler and not overclock it yet but buy it at another time when I am ready to overclock HOWEVER I would still get the i5 2500k? How much better is that new GPU than my previous one? Also, I would MUCH prefer if eveything was from Scan so it all arrives at the same time and packaging prices aren't getting split between companies.
haha, i think so, at least a £20 premium! and at the op, was this the gpu you did have? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-...r5-gpu-850mhz-1600-cores-dp-hdmi-2-x-dl-dvi-i If you want to save money I'd stick with this and then either sell it later down the road and get different/ better one, or add another one in crossfire. I've been using one every now and again for the past month and actually think there pretty good, the fan isn't loud, although it does spin up when your gaming, but you can change that in afterburner with a custom fan profile, it also achieves pretty good frame rates, obviously you won't max everything out, but you can still have a very good playable game.
Yes, that was my original planned GPU. I think I will stick with it as it's available with scan and looks like it should be pretty quick. So if I had my original GPU and my other parts in my previous post, would all be well for a good build? Should it be able to run games at high quality at high speeds? Is everything compatible and will it all fit in the case? Will everything I need to build the computer be with the parts I order e.g. cables, fans ect..?
