...Little to no modding required, no skill necessary. I found this and it made me lol or http://youtu.be/N8eOTGhTpDY £35 quid for the v12, £30 for the v8 and v10: http://www.clickshop.com/product/3178/soundracer/v8-engine-sound/?search=1# Dont think my current diesel Fiesta would quite hit the high notes :s
The mechanics behind it is wonderfully simple, using the changing alternator voltage through the cigarette lighter to determine how fast the engine is turning, and transmitting the sound through radio. Simple, but awesome! EDIT: Seeing the post above, err, I don't want one! I don't have a car so I couldn't anyway.
So.. People on the outside can hear the bog-standard 1.1 EcoMotive DieselFuelSaveDrive engine you have in your car - but you will get the benefits of fake V8 sound from the crappy speakers of your car? I like it.
Now that's funny They should have reduced the rpm counter by half, or maybe even 4 times, that way the sound of the motor would be a little bit more in tune with how slow the car is moving I'm guessing soon enough we'll all be hearing lots of boy racers with rpm sensing fm transmitters, just like that movie where they basically play one of these with a decent sound system, complete with a nice amp and subwoofer, to get a realistic big motor sound all around the car, internal and external - so yes, you could even feel the beat of a big V12 motor at close range, just as if it were real, and this could be easily done with any car, even a mini
OT: Wow that's awesome, the kits to do that are about $4k USD + the cost of installation. Not that hard if you're confident, it's bolt-in to the original Focus monocoque... Want! Those V8 sound thingies are pretty ridiculous, I just don't understand the appeal. It doesn't sound vaguely like a real engine.
^^ Does that include drivetrain? I wasn't aware Focus's were RWD... Edit, on looking, yeah, it seems they use a 5 speed.
they arent. the kits come with a front engine cradle and rear axle cradle. the engine, transmission, and rear axle are not included in the kit price and are generally salvaged from a mustang.
^^ Sorry, I didn't put that I saw that as well... It says Mustang 8.8 Read and then a 5 speed manual or a C4 Auto box are the most common choices.
^^ you can only make a left hand drive focus rear wheel drive due to the way the steering rack sits, you see the odd old shape RS on the continent that someone has done a 4x4 mod to, thats using the original engine etc obv
With $4k to spare I'd rather just sell the Focus and use the money to buy something that's RWD in the first place. The car's ugly as sin and doesn't really have anything special going for it.
Is it just me or does the V8 just sound exactly like the V10 just doesn't go as higher pitched. Doesn't even sound like a V8.
I'm not saying I'd definitely want to do it if I owned a Focus... However I really like the Mk.1, it's a fantastic car to drive, which can only improve with coilovers and a V8-RWD drivetrain.
You will have to excuse me as I'm not very mechanically minded when it comes to cars but wouldn't that conversion seriously upset the balance of the car?
Yeah, you'd be giving the poor Focus a heap more weight at the front end, and chassis upsetting torque at the rear end, with next to no weight down there for traction... but to top it off, the wheelbase is tiny compared to the long rwd donor car = it will be twitchy as fcuk... rwd can be alot of fun, and drifting is Cheesecake, but imagine driving such a thing in the wet You would want traction control! If I was nuts enough to do such a crazy conversion to a little car, i'd probably do it to something cooler, like a mini... but if I was after a pocket rocket, i'd much rather just start with a nice platform, like a pulsar GTR, or laser TX3, or at least use a nice 4wd driveline... going by your av, I think you know 4WD is the shiznitz I'm personally looking forward to more cars using 4wd hybrid setups, like what the Porsche 918 uses... or better yet, just one electric motor at each end, no gearbox at all, and one of those things that can make 1.21 gigawatts from household waste as the power source.
Go here and buy this stuff - http://www.kugelkomponents.com/focus/focusv8.php Several of them V8 Foci in Denver. There is a wagon version is Denver that really has better front to rear balance than the coupe.
Been a few V8 minis, and the torque steer looks ridiculous, , video on youtube of one. I'd rather get a Mk1 Escort and put a V8 in that, or a Morris Minor and a V8 in that,
The scoob's a beast! Perfectly suited to the country roads where I live and its an all weather warrior too. Need to get the work finished on the garage so it can go back under cover. I don't like leaving it outside with the birds pooping on it.
