Build Advice Best retailer apart from scan!

Basically due to scan messing me around with various things that I either misunderstood or was told wrongly I have ended up with a £20 charge to send a gpu back which I thought I never agreed to. It has basically taken 1/2 a year to get to this point due to recalls and faulty kit and scan haven't handled it well at all.

So what is the best retailer apart from scan

I'm really not sure for you guys in the UK, Scan seems to be the favorite around here. Aria and OCUK get many complaints, but some people have good experiences.. Try them? How about the Bit-Tech marketplace?

 

Apart from Scan, I've had positive experiences from CCL and ebuyer. There are also a few more specialist shops, like specialtech for watercooling, and quietpc for...quiet stuff

 

Specialtech have been good the times I've used them - though they don't stock as much as Scan. What they do have is a lot of modding kit (cable sleeving etc), as well as things like fans, cases and other odds and ends.

eBuyer are...alright. Not the best, but reasonable. Steer clear of Overclockers UK - terrible support and RMA, ditto for Aria. Dabs can be decent.

 

Scan... I dont touch OcUK with a barge pole any more.

Im sorry about your experiences with Scan, but they've always been perfect for me.

 

Tbh it doesnt matter which etailer you pick there will always be people with high praise and people with horror stories,
In the past ive used OCUK, novatech, scan, ebuyer, tekheads, ccl and probably a couple more i cant think of right now and aside from a problem with ebuyer over the msi mobo promo, (which got fixed in the end, and ive used since) ive not had any issues with any of them.

Personally i buy from the cheapest at the time, providing they're relatively well known of course.

 

+1 for ebuyer, and aria, never had any problems with them, although aria, don't seem to have as many items for purchase as scan or ebuyer

 

Ebuyer have been good every time I've used them, as have specialtech for cases/cooling stuff.

 

Aria and CCL have both been very good to me.

I've used CCL's customer support and that was good, Aria are very prompt usually and have good deals.

 

Have used OCUK a few years back (2004) and they were pretty decent from what I can remember. Have also used EBuyer recently and have had very few issues with them too. Scan is far and away the best IMO though, particularly with the free shipping from being a member here. You even get a text message letting you know what hour slot your stuff will arrive. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Ebuyer again though if they were a lot cheaper than Scan on a particular item.

 

Ebuyer. The free postage option has always been somthing that ive chosen to go for. We all want our new toys cheap as right?

Yeh I thought they were the best but when a company treats you like that it's puts you off

The really annoying thing is that compared to dabs, ocuk, aria scan has the most stock and is the cheapest. Also only scan stock the hx650 (@ocuk it was £100). Haven't looked @ ebuyer yet but I know they are cheap and don't they have free delivery

 

I tend to use either OcUK or ebuyer and in years gone by Dabs, never had any problems with any of them with regards to RMAs and the like

 

I always used Ebuyer but started using Scan when I got free delivery. Ebuyer has a free delivery option over £50 but I dont always want/need to spend £50.

However, have had to RMA items with both and both have been perfect, collected the item, checked the fault and replaced the item quickly.

Generally I use either of them, depending on item required and deal at that time.

Aria on the other hand, I wouldn't spit on their RMA service and staff if it they were on fire.

E-Buyer for me as well. I use them quite often and have never had any issues.

 

Surprised 'dabs' haven't been mentioned yet. They offer very good service in my experience. You can also get Quidco cashback! In fact I got £15 cashback on a 5870 that turned out to be faulty and so was returned for a full refund. Fifteen pounds up for an RMA can't be bad!

 

Well my local trading standards don't think so. Aria broke their own T+C's with me !!

Trading Standard are on the case.

 

The people at Aria are fundamentally good people, just over-worked and under-paid; bad combination where the customer usually ends up on the recieving end of one or two inevitable mistakes.
That said, it does keep the prices down....

Scan are usually good, just unlucky about the bad service.
