Agree with the above. We will definitely be needing a new map when 1.8 is released properly. Underground mines, ravines and strongholds Cheesecake!

Combat is too easy, mines are too prolific atm, villages are vacant, so play with villages/mines off.

Diamond is an awful lot easier to get to with the ravines.

Furnaces are bugged, though there's a bytecode fix for that written by a third party. Very frustrating.

Finally, vines are the new wildfire. They spread EVERYWHERE!!!

Other than that, it's a nice update. :D

EDIT: Oh, and low level lighting hardcoded for gloominess near the bedrock ruins large low level rooms. there should be an option to disable it.

    I'm aware. :D

@jeb_ has said he'll at least update the pre-release tomorrow (whether that affects us due to asset access, I'm not sure)

I'm mostly mucking about with creative. :D

Thought I would give this a try and see what 1.8 is going to look like

Quick question - what texture packs have been updated to include the new 1.8 blocks and what are people using?

A lot of them were updated pretty quickly. I've always used Misa's 64x. Tried a dozen different others, and this one's really the best imo (his older cobblestone was better, but it's a matter of taste, and easy to replace manually). Packs above 64x look like crap, because at a distance everything's a mess of pixels, and I can't really go back to 16x now after higher resolutions.

Minecraft 1.8 is out now. How long before the servers are updated and what are we doing about a new map?

    +1

Also, I propose we agree not to take any items across for the first week or two, really start afresh.

I'll agree to that, although with a few exceptions; Wood and a crafting table can be taken, so everyone doesn't immediately charge up to the nearest trees and clear the new spawn in seconds?

Item spawning is a little boring, especially now you can have a creative server if you want to just do architectural awesomeness! I'm really looking forward to the new bit-tech server, I haven't really been on much lately.

Is the server map going to be updated before the snow biomes are back? Would be a shame, not to have any snow.
Oh and, will the max height be upped? They seemingly made it easier to do so.

XM's incharge of survival, im incharge of freebuild.
However, it looks like bukkit will be released late tonight or tomorrow, if XM is unable to update on the same day, I will do it myself - and add multiverse, create a new world for the people who want a new 1.8 map and allow players to teleport/something between them.

For the freebuild, I need to add some new plugins, update bukkit and fix dynmap - then it will be online.

I was hopeing someone could pm me the address to the servival server. as it seems like the one people use the most. i spent most of my time on the creative so with this update seems like the best time to change as it will take ages to update the server lol.
