I've had a quick look and cant see if this has been posted yet: ITV documentary can’t tell the difference between gaming and reality; mistakes Arma 2 for secret IRA film If it has been posted already then my apologies
Wow that was a pretty big mistake the video they used dosen't even look remotely real, i was expecting something like a helicopter in the distance being shot down so it would be hard to tell but do these researchers honestly see people stand as still as that all the time? and trees looking so flat?
ITV confuses IRA attack with ArmA clip Apparently ITV got a bit confused and used a piece of footage from ArmA II in their Exposure programme this week, claiming it was a real clip of the IRA from 1988! full story here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-09-27-itv-confuses-ira-attack-with-arma-clip
Haha, brilliant. Here's another version as the original has gone from youtube now. Also, great top comment:
Haven't seen any of the fottage but sounds like some sort of publicity stunt to me. What kind of editor would grab random footage with no thought to the provenance/content of it other than it looking appropriate? Just can't imagine a situation whereby someone could accidentally lift some video game footage from somewhere to use in a documentary to pass as genuine live footage. Attention is probably what they're after...
Doubt it. They where pushing this series as a hard hitting journalism, getting down to the facts. All they have done is make sure noone ever treats it with any credibility. ITV fails on everything except X Factor and Coronation St, and I don't even watch them.
This sums up my feelings towards ITV - feelings that predate this balls-up by a long, long way. It's just the chav channel. Even the adverts are worse. Now excuse me, I'm going to go buy Arma II and start making the headlines
