Craig, i think your prob correct, indeed it all darkens down with the laquer. Otherwise its a spray the whole lot black (only joking). Wanted to laquer it the other day, but spray shop was all tidied up and guns cleaned etc, couldnt really mess it all up to do my bits, as much as i would of liked too. The front panel is missing again at the moment for a bit of work im doing to it, that should make it even better, its a 1 hit thing, so its either gotta look good, or otherwise its the bin. But im pretty confident it will be fine though, so no panic
Thanks Raikkok, yeah was happy with the thinking on this one for the doors, time will tell though if any warping, but its unlikely now doing it this way. Splitting the panels on the bansaw also alowws for both side panels to be duplicates, which is nice.
Not sure im 100% happy, anyway, its too late now, the dots were supposed to bring the writing forward (not my idea), However with the writing in dark mahog stain, actually looks ok i think?. may lighten the letters a little, there quite prominent and protrude 1mm from surface, hand carved.
New project, what? where ? who? i said nowt . Window 1 cut, recess for exactly 4mm glass and 6mm rad corners. Enjoy, this pic also shows better the protruding of the carving on the front as first pic dont really show this very well. Im pretty happy that the window also breaks up the horizontal slat look of the wood.
Looking bloody nice! I think the fan controller needs painting though, probably just me nit picking, but it doesn't match the beautiful wood! Other than that, great stuff!
Thanks KidMod, The fan controller was just something i had lying around to put in the slot, I intend for that slot to be a bluray drive. I will see if i can make some sort of wood coverplate for it, like the one you have done as that should look ace, I need to get some 4mm glass/perspex for the window. Money is a bit short on this project, but what i want is the rad, so i can attatch my custom fan grill on to the top.
Im pretty close Waynio. I need to get some door magnets, then the glass for top window bit and then glass for side window part. The top grill is designed to be very tight fit, so no mount screws required. I should of put the rad in first obviously, but i dont have the cash to buy one at the moment, and couldnt resist seeing if grill fitted. Its gonna be a big push to ease it out again. Im pretty happy with the build, sure theres things id like to be improved or better, but given the time constraints etc, i cant ask for more really. Its been great making something with a warmer feel and working with wood was a change for me, i would generally not like wood builds, but was sure if done right could look good, so i hope others give it a go also, obviously ive been watching the other wood builds in progress. Better sand off that pen mark on left door also, forgot about that.
I hate perspex, so went for glass. Glass looks a little out, bottom right corner, but it really isnt that bad and would rather the wood flex than the glass be tight. Glass a touch undersize, but thats what you get for asking glass shop man to cut it and not pushing him out way so you can do it yourself. Push magnets for door coming monday
Cheers guys. Theres a bit of tidying up to do and few things like that, but sadly its almost finished. Ive fitted a door magnet now, looks a bit plasticicastic tacklistic, but does do the job ok, as its not a push magnet, im going to have to put a finger hole in to open the door, or some other similar method? Till next update.
You could cut a notch in the side of the door that's underneath, that way there won't be anything visible.. Just a suggestion.
Can you do me a quick paint or something pic so i can visualise more what you mean please matey. No prob with suggestions, thats what its all about, any other suggestions welcome. I look at projects as only cases/pcs, so comments good or bad are always welcome, i dont get upset.
I've missed a bit of this. It looking really good, I especially like the look of that top grill. Nice work dude.
ninjaplease, Ok, got ya, will see what i can do. Nice to see you here bulldog, wondered where ya been. I asked powderman, for a purple, and really loving what ive got, im likely to use this colour for another build. Big thanks to Mr 45 for sorting the powdering for me.
