As above really. Just picked up a couple of smartphones, one for me and one for my brother. A HTC Trophy 7 and HD2. Currently running a gingerbread cyanogen ROM on the HD2, and stock on the Trophy. Anyone got any recommendations for apps? I'm not bothered about games or anything like that. Also anyone had any experience with the HD2? I'm looking to boot directly into android, but am not sure how to do it without plugging the phone in, and sadly the usb connection is very dodgy, so that isn't really plausible. Also if anyone knows a way to get a W7.5 ROM onto the phone without plugging it in, that would also be awesome
There's some very nice fitness apps, quite ingenious in design! Apart from that I bought titanium backup pro to make rom switching easier. I also always have Kindle and Moon reader for when I want to read. And finally definitely definitely get MX Video player, it's just the best one out there and I've tried many!
BBC Radio Player eBay Amazon Mobile Calendar Search IMDb Photosynth Skydrive Sports Tracker Supertube Absolute Radio BBC Podcast Lounge Metro RAC Traffice
If you're on a limited data tariff, it might be worth looking at NetCounter - handy little app for tracking data usage. Also, for radio it's worth looking at TuneIn Lite
I just switched to one with 1gb data (coming from none) No idea if it will be enough, if not then I'll get back on the phone with virgin and see what they can offer (was offered my current one which is their £15 tariff for half price when I said I was switching to giffgaff). Otherwise I can go with my original plan, which was giffgaff which offer 'unlimited', so I wouldn't have to worry about small amounts of usage by apps etc, only if I started download several GBs a day would I then be in trouble Trying the Trophy now, and I must admit first impression is W75>>Android/W6.5. Will have to give it a little more time though, started to get used to the larger screen size of the HD2, and began to actually quite like it. (I'm coming from a £7 nokia with a tiny screen)
Preach it! Seconding the recommends for Photosynth and Skydrive. Connection Tiles is a good app for changing wifi on/off from the home screen. Redlaser is a nifty shopping app - scan an item and see if it's cheaper online! Adobe Reader - sure, you've got Office on your phone, but can you read PDFs? Poynt is a local search app to find things near you.
found it very useful to begin with, however started causing wakelocks and drained the battery, worth noting, if you have ICS then it has a built in web usage counter, with alarm functions to warn you when you approach the limit. personally I like opera mobile - however since the ICS update it has been battery heavy (not definite its at fault yet - experimenting with an alternate browser currently to see if there’s any improvement) I like N7 player for organising my music (though as far as I can tell lacks a random play function) in terms of monitoring what my phone is doing, better battery stats (free via XDA forum) and CPUspy allowed me to locate what caused my battery to drain (hence finding the issue with netcounter.) currently trying to adjust my ICS settings as I've gone from 2 days with good usage to 1-1.5 days battery life, coinciding with web browsing and opera being responsible for 40% + battery usage (hoping to get some assistance on XDA as to the cause of this)
Yeah I noticed opera drain too, it's a real shame as Opera is the very best browser you can get. Ever. It's extremely quick and intuitive to use and speed-surf across the web. My opinion of course but I'm pretty sure if you try it you'll be impressed Also, what is this better battery stats you talk of? is it an app?
There is a serious amount of development on the xda forums for the Hd2. I'm running a tablet/phone rom on mine. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662881&page=106 If you just want android you will have to flash Mgdlar and then your rom. Have a loom at this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783 EDIT: Can you connect to the pc at all?
Not really, you have to hold the cable at a rather extreme angle, and the slightest movement it may disconnect :/
I might see if I can, not sure if it's worth it though. Depends how much it would cost, as I've said above, I'm far preferring W7.5, so I'll most likely either give the HD2 to my brother, or sell it on at this rate. I think what I really want is the HD7 (updated HD2 which comes with W7.5 it seems)
I had gingerbread on my HD2, had to plug it in to root it etc. The dodgy connection could be the little tongue thing in the port on the phone, it its a little out of line the connection will become flaky. Try using a penknife to straighten it out. As for apps? 3G Watchdog for your mobile internet, you can set it to cut off your mobile net when you reach the limit so you don't start paying extra. K9-mail is a pretty decent mobile app as well. Try Google Chrome mobile as well, very good browser. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
