Okay guys, this isn't your usual first car thread. Anyway, having been paid about £300 more than I expected (worked more hours than the schedule said), I'm looking at finally looking at buying a car. Details: Age: 22 Number of years on license: 2 (1st September) Price range: £25-£900(ish) Engine size: Below 1.8. Needs: Backseats ( ) MOT + Tax So anyway, I'd like something fairly respectable, can seat about 4 and the driver seat will have leg room (I'm 6ft 5in with really long legs). So what is there out there? I'm kind of confused on what to get :/
How.... im 6'2" and backseat fun is never as fun as people make out i need would need to open the door for leg room... and then im practically outside of the car anyway so technically its public... I hope the naughty implined backseat action else ... well it would be awkward BACK OT! Corsa B Peugeot 106/206/306 Seat Ibiza Something like that you could get within the budget i would expect while being affordable insurance Although a 206 footwell is a nightmare for us long legged big footed people (6'2" size 13 feet) my sisters is a nightmare to drive the clutch is screwed so getting the biting point is a knee to the face.
Fiat Siecento. /trollface It's not a bad little 4 seater motor considering you can pick up one running and serviced for £250- 350. Probably a bit small for you though, get a Panda. /real trollface
A good friend of mine has a 4x4 Panda and get a somewhat filthy amount of action in the back of it.. I wouldn't consider that a good reason to buy one however.
I wish, sadly the original ones are stupidly expensive (unless I want one that's got more rust on it than I've ever seen), and the newer ones are still too new to have dropped in price all that much. Thanks for all the other replies! Looked and some Vectra's, and for the price, it seems I can get the most for my money there. I've also noted that cars in Somerset are massively overvalued. Which is a huge pain!
Polo 6n (Mk4) Or if you can find one for £900 a 6n2 (Mk 5 2000-2002). Lovely things they are. Cheap to run/insure, very well built. Perfect first car IMO. Especially when you roll it or drive it into a ditch and don't end up dead.
at 22 and a student i suggest you check insurance on some of these cars first, you might just get screwed. I would look for a classic mini and then join the mini owners club then look at classic insurance avoiding the 'comparison sites' like knob rot. That should all be in your budget, also bare in mind road tax and the (not so new) new tax categories for instance my 1998 Saab 900 Turbo S costs £220 for 12 months tax, if it were to be taxed on the new rules then it would be a category L costing £460 for 12 months So yes my car could be considered "performance" however a lot of cheap to buy petrols out there on newer plates are cheap because of the huge re-tax costs. Just be careful
At 22 the insurane cost is going to be the most limiting factor. You'll basically have to go something old and slow or you're looking at ~£1000 pa in insurance costs =\ I recommend the skoda felicia 1.2. Not exactly a babe magnet but a pretty reliable and inexpensive motor. I had a P reg polo before that and it was terrible (I think there was something wrong with it)
