Hi all, It's been a couple of years since I owned a car, finances now allow for me to get back on the road. Budget:£5k-£6k max What I'm looking for: 5dr hatchback / supermini. Must be a manual, not fussed on petrol or diesel. Must also be be relatively cheap to fun, high MPG would be great. Mostly going to be used for city driving at the weekends and the occasional motorway trip. Currently I'm eyeing up a few 2009 / 2010 Ford Fiesta's but I'm open to suggestions.
Fiesta is a good choice - get a petrol with an engine big enough to suit your needs (i.e. if you aren't bothered for speed, just the boggo small one) A quick look on autotrader gives this one which looks like a fine example. Very good cars in all respects.
Yup I had a look at a 5dr 2010 Titanium (new shape) at the weekend, (didn't have time to test drive it ). Which looked pretty decent with all the mod cons. Anything other than Fiesta's I should look at?
Ditto...I have a 1.4 Zetec (pet), nothing bad at all to say about it, fun to drive and quite nippy...
Plenty of interesting small cars, if you can stand the styling I'd think about a MiTo and maybe a 500 as well, although they may be just out of budget.
Clio - we've had ours for almost 3 years now and it's just a beauty. Great fun cars, pleasant to drive, reliable, cheap to run, SO EASY to park in a city environment.
I've considered a 500, bit concerned it might be *too* small (I'm 6ft tall). Need to actually try one out though. Don't really want a Clio though, had a few bad experiences in friends cars.
I would suggest a Mini but if you want to carry anything more than the weekly shop go for something with a bigger boot. Space wise for people it is fine, ours seats 4 large adults easily enough
Worth a pop, there's a big chap at work here (6ft 2) who drives one, and he's just told me that he has the seat one click from the longest setting, apparently it's very comfortable.
If you're not worried about the badge I'd recommend the Skoda Fabia, not sure a 1.2 TSI would be in your price range but it's an awesome engine... if not the normal 1.2/1.4 is fine for city driving.
Seems the 500 is getting a lot of votes here, and i'd have to agree. My friend recently bought one (he's circa 6ft +) and I had a ride in it the other morning. Fabulous little car, surprisingly spacious inside with a great finish. After his initial reservations about being able to be comfortable in the car, he can now only sign its praises. Just don't go expecting a sporty driving position... more VW Bus than Ferrari - but I suppose that's to be expected. Not usre how good they (the 500s)a re on long drives, but with their small engines and shortt gears, they're plenty quick for town running. For that matter, the Panda may not be as much to look at, but it's essentially the same car, just a bit less "girly" looks-wise, and a bit cheaper.
^^ the 100HP and the Panda4x4 (which we get here... not sure about the UK) are both MASSIVE fun to drive, economical and the grip from the 4x4 is immense.
