Looks half decent, price and spec is great, when are you going to get one of these to review? Is this a Clevo chassis?

Looks remarkably decent, just need a review to determine whether the rest of it is any good :p

    Almost certainly.

Not as much in terms of customisation as PC Specialist, who I've just had a very good experience of buying from. Prices are about equal, though, so it'll be swings and roundabouts.

They do look like Clevo / Sager notebooks.

Can't blame them, they are known for their good quality. Sor those who dont know this company its what Alienware used pre-Dell, Origin PC uses and maaaany others. Good stuff.

EDIT: and this is what PC Specialist uses also.

No harm in a little more competition, quite like the look of the smallest model.

But since scan is very much in with the bit.tech crew one thing is missing: review/preview and benchies? Not a lot of negativity for scan related articles, the first laptop is a paltry 1366x7xx resolution, surely in the days of HD and what not the basic resolution would be something of 1680x1050 etc. Maybe im just being a pesimist. But 600quid and adding 8gb of ram (as its the cheapest way to bolster the appearance of the laptop) rather than investing in a screen to see the full benefits of the nvidia chip would be a more unique selling point, presuming the price is less than 700GBP. I for one would spend a 100quid to see a better and clearer game on a laptop if it was to be a prime/portable gaming rig.

Scan is popular with Bit-tech, CPC and their readers because many of us have had very good experiences buying from them. Hence they are consistently voted as the #1 online retailer for geeks.

Personally not interested in laptops so meh, but as George said above, competition is always welcome.

Getting anyone to offer more than 1366x768 or 1920x1080 is rare now. Some will do 1600x900, but the old widescreen resolutions like 1280x800, 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 have vanished. Which is a pity, as I vastly prefer 16:10 over 16:9.

Basically, high end laptops go 1080p so they can proudly boast "1080p" on there, while cheaper ones go 768p so they can claim "HD ready!" :(

You say that, but it is a tiny screen. If that resolution becomes much bigger, it will be like looking at your laptop through the wrong end of a telescope.

Also, for portable gaming, larger resolutions aren't exactly going to help are they? Talking performance wise here.

Shame it's just gaming laptops. That level of customisation from a company I trust would be nice for normal laptops too.

A bit naughty of them to list the excluding VAT and not including VAT until you click more info.

1366x768 may not be the best, but at 11.6" it's plenty, you wouldn't want much more as it's only got a 650M, should allow for mostly max settings at that res. I'm more concerned with the quality of the panel. 1366x768 is fine by me if you got IPS.

Where are the high-res photos? Clicking the thumbnails does nothing. :(

I would watch out for scan. it seems their database has recently been hacked. I have just started to get lots of spam mail to my scan email address trying to sell me all sorts of pills.

They had some system trouble a couple of weeks ago, but I would have expected them to tell customers if something like this had happened, if only so we knew that (potentially) our personal information was compromised.

I've not noticed an upsurge of spam, however. I guess my spamfilter is doing it's job.

I use unique emails for just about everything and I haven't had any spam to my Scan email. I use my own domain and the email addresses don't actually exist but I have a filter set up that just directs them to my main address. If you're using gmail or some other service it could be that spammers have just guessed your email address.

Thanks for showing an interest in these laptops guys, as it sounds like there is some interest in a review I'll have a word with the bit writers and see what can be done.

Re the technical issue we (Scan) had a few weeks ago, it wasn't to do with the email system so I suspect the increase in spam has been caused by something else.

On a completely unrelated note James, do you think it's now time to change your user title and staff status? I wouldn't want anyone to draw the wrong conclusions about impartiality as they have in other threads, despite the fact that most of us know it would never happen.
