I have a Netgear DG834 modem and a Asus RT-N16 router (running tomato firmware). Anway, I want to completely disable the router functionality on the Netgear, so the Asus is basically doing all the work. I found a way to put the Netgear in Bridge mode, which immediately loses internet connection. I then go into the Asus router and enter the PPPoE settings (plusnet login details ) However, I simply cannot establish a connection when the Netgear is running in modem only mode. Anyone know anything re. what I am trying to do to lend me helping hand?
By 'Bridge mode' do you mean going to the hidden configuration page on router and setting it to Modem Only mode'? Login into the router then change the URL to: http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm
What exactly are you trying to achieve? Use the Netgear as a Modem and the ASUS as a router? Use the ASUS as a Modem Router and the Netgear as a Switch or Access Point?
Think you're getting the bridge mode mixed up with modem only mode. You shouldn't be using the Asus to connect to the internet, but as a DHCP server. Netgear - modem mode - keeps internet settings - should knock off DHCP, check. Asus - Should just be used as wireless & DHCP.
I put the Netgear into "modem only" mode. I want to use the Netgear as just the modem and the Asus as the router. I went into the hidden config page on the Netgear modem to change it to modem only.
Well this is what I did with my Virgin media hub and Cisco 4200: Media hub in modem mode using standard firmware then connected the Cisco router to the "PORT 1" Ethernet port => Internet port on the Cisco router and that works great. Any one using the Cisco routers new firmware that the new "Internet" firmware requires a working Internet connection to make changes to setting on your router. Other then that it works quite well.
