I was speaking to a friend who works for a rival of Intel (in the mobile market) and we were discussing the new haswell releases. I expressed my surprise that ivy-e hadn't been released, and was informed that Intel were actually going straight to Haswell-e. Started looking around for articles to back this up and many seem to suggest a haswell-e q4 2013 or q1 2014 release, which wouldn't leave room for an ivy-e release. Take the above with a pinch of salt of course, but what do you guys think?
According to this... http://www.hardcoreware.net/solder-ivy-bridge-e-4960x-delidded/ IVB-E will be coming out, and on the plus side will be using solder so may overclock better.
I did read an article a while ago that mentioned skipping Ivy-E but plenty has been written since to suggest otherwise. I think Bindi's answer is plenty clear enough, too.
Hurrah for solder is what I say lets hope we see some decent clocking chips (hopefully without the power consumption of the SB-E hex cores).
Of course you *can*... you just not going to because you'll be beaten mercilessly by your employers... and/or fired... Reading between the lines... IB-E is just around the corner... [which in my head = sometime in the next 3-6 months]
I am thinking the same, which is why I am holding off buying the waterblocks for my motherboard as I am waiting to see what the Rampage V Extreme is like, if/when it gets released but will have to wait and see.
We'll only ever do hybrid 'sinks, we can't only sell a waterblock. As such, all heatsinks require a specific level of thermal mass in order to be properly air cooled. With the limited space available for VRMs on the LGA2011, a hybrid 'sink is very difficult imo. That said, I'm not aware at all what RD are doing on any future projects. I only get shown once it's done. Maybe they solve it and go hybrid, I dunno. EK will undoubtedly make a kit though.
Hybrid is what I meant lol my bad. I hope they do manage it though with a barb thread rather than pre fitted barbs, so I can choose the tube size I want to use rather than being limited to one size.
Yes they do. Every hybrid heatsink we do from now on will only feature G1/4s. It'll be fun to watch the rest of the field copy our design LOL
Seems the first review has gone live. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/08/30/intel_ivy_bridgee_core_i74960x_ipc_ocing_review/1 Seems it's a complete waste of time for anyone who already has a 3930k/60x/70x or anyone using a 4Ghz+ X58 setup. I will be sticking with my 3930k.
