Odd - Tel posted a pic showing the USPS status, and the final info is in Chicago which states that the item has been "Processed Through Sort Facility". The image is hosted on BT - wonder why you can't see it? Odd.
Ah right! That explains... Usually I find that there is about 5 days or so between it getting to that status and actually arriving here. Mine seems to be about a day behind yours - mine was processed through on 16th
Once it lands then will have to wait for the letter saying how much they are going to fleece me for tbh it's a shame it's not coming from China wouldn't pay any of that BS
With first class USPS you usually get a postcard from the royal mail before they let you have it. Depends on what they declared the value as - if it's less than about $20 then no customs charges at all
I've always got hit up the goolies for a handling charge and to boot Royal fail sorting office up here only takes cash ffs take about stuck in the past
I've been stung before for handling charges + 20% but they only charge that at all if the value of the parcel is over about £15 (or about $20) or is declared to be over that value... All depends on what is put on the label - I've had things undervalued and overvalued before...
FrozenCPU always declare the actual item cost. Unfortunately UK Customs have a new system so it's very rare for a taxable item to avoid a charge. I buy quite a lot from FrozenCPU and PerformancePCs and the handling charge has varied between about £8-12. While not 100% sure I think handling is based on the weight or in the case of Royal Mail how much they think they can rip off.
I've bought a lot of stuff from the USA very rare to not get stung the worst computer part was my mountain mods case, case was £460 And declared at full value post was a joke so by the time I got it with everything added it was over £600 I only buy from the USA if I really can't get it elsewhere
Shipping and VAT on my Case Labs and Pedestal has been my worst so far, £284. It'd been far worse if Case Labs hadn't made an error with the value
Anything up to $40 and a gift costs nothing. Computer parts up to $40 also cost nothing. It's when the value is higher. First you will pay VAT, then you will pay a 'handling charge'. If you think it's bad with Royal Mail? Fed Ex charge around £20 just for the pleasure of charging you VAT. This was the reason why I decided against buying a Caselabs case. Not that I could really afford one any way, but the Mercury S3 seemed somewhat affordable until I worked out it would cost me about the same in shipping and VAT charges and customs charges. Caselabs need to sort a dealer here in the UK.
You're wrong. Anything from the US over £15 including gifts and computer parts is charged import VAT at 20%. Case Labs have introduced reduced shipping to Europe
^^ this I've even known UK customs to open the box and check the value of the goods and reassess the value
Then it's been changed. I used to live out there and send stuff back here all the time. Since moving back my friends constantly send me stuff (mostly Dunkin Donuts coffee).
It has, it used to be £20 but computer parts were not excluded. What has changed it the new system that identifies the vast majority of taxable/dutiable imports.
I've never had that happen... Gifts are the same as before (well it actually £36) and the rules can be found here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/internet.htm It says that they don't charge is the value of duty to be collected is less than £9 but that's different to the VAT I believe.
